50 Years Ago Today...
First Manned Flight in Space
Last night I attempted to do a technique Keitha saw recently using markers and sprayed water to make a background. My markers are so dry, they are only 15 years old, that I couldn't do it. It turned into scribbling on the damp paper to work out which markers still worked and throwing half of them away. Then I added some scraps of maps, patterned papers and streaks of oil pastel spread with water and left it to dry.
This morning I added stamped lines and circles in black ink then stencil with black paint. Then we watched some of the film First Orbit

When I came back to look at this again, it looked sort of spacy-in a good way. From the transcript of the space flight, I wrote on the lines some of the things that Gagarin said.
I especially like what he said after he landed in a field and scared the farmer and his daughter, "don't be afraid, I am a Soviet like you who has descended from space and I must find a telephone to call Moscow".

Great job Marianne!! Love it. Those stencils really finished it off!!

Had you considered adding that quote to it? I just read it again and it made me giggle again. Can you imagine how terrified those poor people were?

Looks great - I love when failed experiments turn into fabulous art!

Thank you all for the comments.
Pam, I did add the quote. There are several quotes written between the arced lines that I stamped on it. Most are things about how awesome it was seeing the earth from up there. But that last one made me laugh. All the technology to put a man in space and he had to wander around to find a phone to call them.
