I did try fabric the other day. I was surprised at how blurry the images came out. The plate seemed to move a lot under the fabric. There wasn't the suction like there is between paper and the paint. I wondered if the fabric should be wet. Maybe there are some tricks to it that I don't know. If I could watch the video it might have hints and tips but our internet is too slow today to watch.ChristyB wrote:That is a cool one!
I want to gelli print fabric and make a wall hanging with it.

I know Pam (?) did some on muslin while we were at Donna's and it came out pretty clear. Hmmmm
Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
I used those white on white prints that were so popular a decade ago. The print is sort of a resist so they have a bit of body to them. It would look good if the print wasn't blurry. I thought a smooth texture would print better than a rough one. I'll try something else. Lots of fabric I could use up!
Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
I wonder if you need to use less paint for fabric? Or maybe adhere the fabric to paper for stability?
The muslin piece I did turned out well (IMHO!) - I'm pretty sure I had a thin layer of paint.

Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
I'll have another go tomorrow with some other fabrics and better consistency paints. The fabric paints were too thin or too thick so I did combine some and got rid of others or I can try regular paint.
Pam, had your fabric been washed or was it still sized?

Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
I would imagine that it hadn't been washed. It was a piece in our kit for the class.
We didn't use fabric paint, either - just the acrylic craft paint.

Pam's right...I just pulled out my piece to see. It hasn't been washed yet.
Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
My Gelli Plate and I went over to Paula's to play yesterday and we had a blast making prints and a mess. I tried a variety of papers. Here are the one's on Watercolor paper and Calendar pages.

And here are some on Canvas Paper, Architecture Vellum (30 years old from when I was in college) and the waste paper I used to clean the plate and the brayer.

COOL PRINTS
Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
I figured out my problem with the fabric. It did better using my hand to smooth it out on the gelli plate. It didn't move at all and stuck nicely to the paint. Before I was pressing too hard with the brayer and that made the plate move and the fabric shift.ChristyB wrote:Pam's right...I just pulled out my piece to see. It hasn't been washed yet.
Very interesting to see all the different papers, Rachelle! Thanks for sharing.
Re: Gelli Plates and Prints
Yes, that was a lot of fun!! My prints look more like a 1st grade art project, so I don't think I will be posting them! Rachelles colors are actually more vibrant in person!!
