As promised, here's my Christmas project. It was a kit designed by Paula Cheney, the lead of Tim Holtz's design team, that she sold on Etsy, and I was lucky enough to snag the last one. It took me a couple weeks of off and on to complete, although I daresay you could finish it in one day if you tried.

It was a lot of components, but fairly easy to do. And I've discovered a couple tricks I hadn't known before, which is always fun.

This is so much fun to gaze at and continually find something new that was missed before. I love the little girl with the tasseled night cap at the tree, lighted no less! And the deer! And, and, and...

The coolest component to me was the fireplace. That's actually the largest box of the 4 pack vignette boxes that I created a fireplace inside. The wood is Popsicle sticks with Vintage Photo (I think) Distress ink applied with the pad, then spritzed with water to saturate and give it that look. Everything was adhered with either glossy accents or collage medium, but PVC glue would have worked as well.

So glad you posted some close-up photos Monica; the details are fabulous. Always fun to discover new tips and tricks, isn't it? I think my favourite is the forest scene vignette with the deer; love the texture on the trees. All fairly easy perhaps, but you did an excellent job with it; I'm sure you'll cherish it in your holiday decor for years to come.

Those trees... you'll laugh! It's the wood grain textured paper Ranger sells cut with a forest of trees die. You ink it first with Vintage Photo Distress ink, using a blending tool to work the ink into the grooves, then run Ground Espresso over it just to color the ridges. The deer were colored with alcohol inks, and are standing on a piece of fluffed batting. The batting went in first, then the trees were glued in place, then the deer. Once everything is secure you fluff the batting. I used a scratch tool, but anything that would fluff it up would work.
