Craft Workshop
Craft Workshop
Update on page 2 with the pictures from the rest of the garage/worshop build.
Hi Everyone! The long awaited reveal has arrived! First off, it has been about 8 months since I had all of my crafty and sewing supplies in one place. In March of 2020 we decided to demolish all of the old sheds, decks, etc. that were hodgepodged on our property and replace them with a 1000 sq ft metal building that would be half garage and half workshop area for me and my hubby. My old art shed was 11 x 9 ft and was stuffed to the rafters. My new area is about 20ft x 12 ft and it's pretty stuffed too, but I have a lot more surface area to play on and a dedicated sewing area, which I've really missed. The first photos are of the sewing end of the room. The hand carved furniture that you will see was all my mother's dining room furniture that she commissioned by a master craftsman from Norway. He did a complete remodel on my parent's home in 1990 and not only carved this furniture, but also many built-ins throughout their house. I'm using the plate holder as a display cabinet above my cutting station. The area I'm using for pressing doubles as a diecutting station when I'm not quilting.

Re: Craft Workshop
Next we have a view from the sewing area towards the other end of the workshop. The large hutch contains all of my beading and wire supplies. Hubby built a custom storage corner for all my cubes of paper and paper-crafting supplies and I have a fake fireplace/heater in the corner of the unit.

Re: Craft Workshop
Looks terrific, Rachelle. I bet you're thrilled with your new space, and what a great tribute to your parents to be able to repurpose their old furniture this way. I'm sure you'll have many hours of crafting pleasure in your new space.
Re: Craft Workshop
Here are all my rubber stamps and inks, paints, embossing powders, etc. You can also see the liquor cabinet on the left, right at the entrance to my room. Don't know if that's permanent or not. We're still working on hubby's side of the workshop and parked it there for the time being. One of the reasons this took a little longer than expected was that hubby actually gave himself a hernia with all this construction work and had to take some time off for surgery and healing. He's 3 weeks out from the surgery now and doing great. But he'll be getting a lot more help with heavy lifting from now on.

Re: Craft Workshop
Here is a close up of my die cutting storage. My mom's jewelry box and a table top she used in her apartment here.

Re: Craft Workshop
And here are some close-ups of my fabric storage and sewing table. I intend to refinish this hutch with a gray wash and take the glass door off, using baskets for fabric storage. I'll probably be doing some customizing of the sewing table as well. I want to lower the machine a little so it's more comfortable to sew at.

What a wonderful space! Your parents’ furniture is being put to such good use. I can’t think of a better tribute to them and the craftsman who created it.

Re: Craft Workshop
Wow! This space is absolutely AMAZING! And so many beautiful pieces and custom builds!
I'm going to have to take some time later and look at all of these photos in more detail, and take down a few ideas for my next craft room when we downsize in a few years.

Wow! It looks great. I especially love how you repurposed your mom's pieces, and those butterfly pulls on the drawers are beautiful.
