Gelli Plates and Prints

I gathered the supplies for making a gelli plate a looooooooooooong time ago and decided to get to it this week end. Very easy btw. I made a rectangular one (top of a spring salad mix box) and a square one (aluminum cake pan). And, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, they're fun to play with.

Here are the results of just goofing off with some Heidi Swapp masks. The middle pic is the first print with the mask in place and the second is the ghost print after removing the masks. Each one is 3 different inkings.

Rachelle, that's the way I started. I used mind until they began to fall apart. I loved working with the plates so much I finally ended up buying the Gelli arts plate. You can get some really cool pages.

thanks! I went ahead and made them with the gelatin 'cause I wasn't sure I wanted to invest in the Gelli Arts one. I figured I could make it for low cost and see if I liked it.

That's what I did a few months ago, wanted to try it out before I bought the real thing. Your prints turned out MUCH better than mine.

That's exactly what I did and why I did it - homemade. But I was hooked so I made the leap and bought one.

6 1oz packets of unflavored gelatin
3 cups boiling water
3 cups cold water

I watched a video of Karen Ellis doing gelli printing today on one of the Creative Jump Starts. But I am missing the point of what the gelli plate does unless it just holds the paint or ink. Anyone care to explain or should I just google it?
