I watched a video of Karen Ellis doing gelli printing today on one of the Creative Jump Starts. But I am missing the point of what the gelli plate does unless it just holds the paint or ink. Anyone care to explain or should I just google it?
it does hold the paint or ink, but it also transfers it completely to the paper and the masks don't move or bleed at all so you get a nice print and ghost print.

It's pretty amazing to me (very much a printing novice) what a clear print you can get and they clean up so easily. The commercial plates are very nice. Had I known how to make one at home, I might have tried that first but I'm happy with my purchase.

Thanks for the tips, Rachelle. I watched the video now I need to spend time reviewing her blog. This is interesting.

Here's the link for anyone interested...

That's a good site. One one of her earlier posts she tells the recipe for making a smaller plate only using one box. That would be a good way to try it without a large investment.

One of the reasons I decided to buy one was that you have to keep your plate in the refrigerator to cut down on mold. I just didn't have the room to keep a larger plate for extended periods of time. Also, I'd used it so much the gelatin began to break down. It tends to split after extended use. But they are easy to make and fun to play with.

Another good site is Carolyn Dube - a colorful journey

There is a lot of information and videos - just google it.

The link to the blog is really good, Jen and Rachelle. Thanks.

I'd love to see some of the prints that others have made, hint, hint!! Or if you did post them, maybe I didn't know what they were.

Mine are in "this weekend" thread.
Robenmarie.com has a video (a few pages back) and from there, you'll find a link to a friend's blog with another good video

Yeh, Roben Marie has good info. I forgot about her when I posted. I'll try and post some of mine later if I get a chance to take some pictures. Probably not tonight.

Not the best photos - too late in the evening. I rescued one of my prints. The one with the red on the bottom...

I can't tell which I like better - the first print or the ghost print. I think they're going to make some wonderful art journal pages!
My scrap paper protecting the table is looking pretty wonderful, too.

My sentiments exactly! I like them both and can see them both used as great backgrounds or aj pages. These are all wonderful Pam! :cool5:

Here are a few of the prints. Some I'll use for backgrounds on AJ'S pages and some I'll cut up to use in different projects. Also, I may add more layers to some of them. I've already done that to several of these from previous print sessions. They're just plain fun and you never know what you'll end up with.

Also, they don't recommend you use spray or fabric inks because they will stain your plate. However, it isn't supposed to affect the plate printing. I did use inks with the gelatin plate I made and it did stain it but didn't affect the prints. Mainly I use acrylic paints. I have a ton of those acrylic craft paints and this is a good way to use them up.

Thanks, Carol and Pam, for posting your experiments. I keep forgetting to look in the cupboard for Gelatin. I'm sure I have some that is ancient that I could put to use-I hate to cook with it.
