More Glass

Post by bethrich »

I was trying to explain a technique to Monica back when we went to dinner in November. Finally I'm posting about it. It uses powdered clear glass sprinkled over iridized glass, using a mask or stencil. Wherever the powder is fused to the irid base, the color changes. This technique was a favorite of the students in the fall class that I took.

I was talking about the spider web bowl that night. It was an experiment that turned out a bit strange, but I like it.

Web cut from vinyl with Cricut and used as a mask.

Continuing the technique, I tried a variation when Cheryl and I went to make ornaments. I used clear stringers on blue irid and loved the result. The clear/green is softer than I wanted.

And a couple of other things. I also made a bunch of jewelry, but don't have photos.

Those ornaments were fun to make. The one with the real leaves and dream weaver stencil are really, really cool.

I think my favorites are the puppy paws and the tree, but they're all beautiful.

Beth, these are all wonderful. You are so talented. I didn't realize that you could use setncils and cricut cutouts to make things like this. Really beautiful.

Talent, NOT! Glass work is just like scrapbooking. Buy a ton of tools, case other people's work and just play with the elements.

Seriously, Monica, go try it. Your local glass pusher will thank you.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.
