wax play necessities.....
wax play necessities.....
I will try to get some kind of tutorial ready over the weekend as my men are going to DD's house to lay tile and I should be alone. (at least, at this point I have not been volunteered to help!)
First, let's determine what you will need:
bees wax (white or natural)
some kind of melting pot or device
teflon mat
tweezers
credit card or ranger scraper
heat gun or wax stylus and tips (if you have the stylus with the pen tip, it is easy to "paint" fine areas)
old paintbrush (I use a cheapo 1 or 1 1/2 in wide brush...try to stay away from plasticky bristles as they may melt)
substrate (I've been using some wood that I had DH cut up for me....stay away from large framed canvases for now) My posted works were 5in x 6in.
collage items, text, music paper, tissue paper, stamp, permenent ink, black paint,
optional, but really fun: perfect pearls, oil pastel crayons, acrylic paints, crayons, bees wax pigment cubes
HINT: I use a big piece of freezer paper wax side down on top of my teflon mat to catch some of the wax drippings as it's not easy to get off teflon mat.

Re: wax play necessities.....
haha...it's really the basics...and you can do a lot with it....i think for now, i'm going to do the collage art one rather than the painted one as i don't know how many have the stylus tip...I could explain both, if you want it.
Re: wax play necessities.....
Oh - I don't have the stylus tip. I'm going to use a heat gun. Thanks though!

Re: wax play necessities.....
I have everything but the beeswax, will look at the local hobby shop, they are pretty pathetic, tho!
Re: wax play necessities.....
This is going to be fun . Not sure if I have oil pastel crayons, but I think I'm good on everything else, except the stylus thingy. Thanks, Ruth Ann.

Re: wax play necessities.....
as i said...some of those are optional...just different ways to add color to the wax...crayons work as well...
Re: wax play necessities.....
I'll have to buy about half of it if I play.
I never bought the melting pot so that is one thing I need.
Maybe I'll just watch and listen

Re: wax play necessities.....
Well, I would also have to buy some of those items, but I have a few~not the melting pot.
I've sworn off picking up a new craft! But this is just an extension of some of the other fun
things we do, isn't it???!!!

Re: wax play necessities.....
there are other ways to melt the wax...a small tuna can in an electric skillet...an old tiny crockpot......you need about 300 degrees or a little less to melt the wax and 180 to keep it liquid without burning it.....If you DO purchase a melting pot...get the extra pan for wax and use the original pan for UTEE...the extra pan fits inside the original and keeps a slightly lower temp so that the wax does not burn and get dark....
Re: wax play necessities.....
....talking about gel sticks on another thread got me to thinking....yep, you can use these with wax too with great results!
Re: wax play necessities.....
thanks for the info
Re: wax play necessities.....
Well, of course, they don't have beeswax! Silly me! Grrrrrrrrrr
