New Art journal pages - have been busy!
New Art journal pages - have been busy!
I have been wrapping up some backgrounds I had done over the last weeks. With the class over the last weekend I suddenly felt inspired... I am still struggling to find a nice handwriting font so my pages start to look less messy and cleaner.
I also struggle with shadowing.
If anyone has tips and tricks for shadowing, please share. I really need input for that field...
Thanks for looking!
The flying fishes were downloads from Taro Gomi, who illustrates colour books for kids and grownups.
I used bits from deviantscrap who has wonderful download items for home printing.

Gorgeous pages! I love the colors!
Shading...not so easy if you ask me - the concept seems like it should be easy but I think it's a skill that can be developed. I use Portfolio oil pastels because I can get my finger wet and blend the color until it looks the way I want it to look (I'm not always happy with the outcome). I think you're doing a great job with your shading though.

Wow! These are really beautiful. I've tried art journaling, and it turns out that it's just not my thing. But I so love looking at them - these are great!

Thanks to all of you ladies for the nice comments.
Pam, I hear you when you say that shading is not easy. I think it is the hardest part of the pages. I am a photographer so you would think I know how shades and shading work, but I find it very difficult to get to grips with. I keep wondering if the shades are black or grey. And yes, it is definitely a skill. I will keep trying, I have only been doing artjournals since april of this year, so it is a full head on!
I love it though. I love the crazy and magical context of it, and the journaling that gets covered up on a lot of pages. I find it does work therapeutic to write and cover it up. But then I have always loved diaries under any form. So a visual diary is right up my alley!

Wow, wow, wow. There is so much detail to these.
The shading is not grey or black. It is the same color as the unshaded area only darker. This will give your shadows more life to start with the main color and make it darker. After all in real life, the object is the same color all over, it is just the absence of light that makes it appear darker.

Wow Marianne, that is powerful information. I had never thought about that one... Makes sense though. A true master in shadowing is Pam Carriker... She uses a charcoal pencil and a stump. Even using those two I still do not get the result that she does. I wished I had gone to art school when I was younger! Thanks for that info... Very useful!

The tranquility page is my favorite. Great pages!
