Altered Cheese Grater

Post by pugmom »

This project has been on my desk for a couple of weeks now and I had a little bit of time today so I decided to get her done. On one of my trips to the Goodwill store I bought a set of three old mini cheese graters. I didn't know what I would do with them until I started seeing commercials for the new movie Mr. Poppers Penguins. It dawned on me that the shape of the grater would be perfect for a penguin body.

So..... here is my blingy cheese grater penguin lady.

I started with this

And ended up with this. I strung the beads on clear filament and just tied them off in the back, her hat is a piece of abalone, the wings are embossed metal on grungeboard and her feet are buttons with bow charms on the top.

Too cute!
How tall are they? Could they be nutmeg graters?
What a great idea.

Thank you all so much! My son thinks I'm nuts. He came in my room when I was working on this and asked what I was doing. When I told him I was turning a cheese grater into a penguin I got that "It can't be done" and "why would you even want to do that" look. I assured him that when I was done, it would look like a penguin.

However, I do have him trained very well. He bought some Dr Scholl's shoe inserts yesterday and before he threw the cool plastic case away, he asked me if I wanted it. (of course I did  ).

Pam, the actual grater part is about 3" tall and the whole thing is about 5". One of them has holes that are about 3/8" across. But they're shaped just like a large cheese grater. Do you think that's what they are?
