Question - Apples
Question - Apples
Hi there
I am thinking of slicing DD's apple before she goes to school so that she will eat it more readily if in bits rather than a whole apple. I know other people do this, but I have always wondered how do I stop it going brown before lunch time after it has been cut as I know she will not eat it if it goes brown.
?

Re: Question - Apples
Lemon juice is the only thing I know of but don't know for sure how long it would hold up.

Sharon, I have found that you don't have to put the lemon juice or orange juice on the apple. Put some on a piece of paper towel in the container with the sliced apple. It should help keep it from going brown without tasting tart.

Sharon, there is also another product here in the states that is called Fruit Fresh. It is used a lot in pies here I think. My mom always used it. Not sure how readily available it would be there.
It is in powder form.
I also use lemon juice for my DD who is 5 and she really loves them with cinnamon sugar sprinkled in with the lemon juice. This cuts the acidity.

Re: Question - Apples
I always used diluted lemon juice, and put my slices in the liquid and then dried a bit on paper towel.
Worked great for me.

Sharon - you can use a bit of any lemon-lime soda (I think you call it "lemonade" over there) Sprite, 7-up type drinks. They contain enough citric acid to stop the color change from happening.
