This is the biscuit recipe I sent Cedric.

Dog Biscuits

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered milk
1 T. wheat germ
1 tsp. low salt bouillon powder or paste
1/2 cup bacon fat or oil
1 egg
1/2 cup water

Mix to a dough and roll out about 1/4" thick. Cut as desired. Bake at 350 for
25-30 minutes. Turn off oven and leave in oven until cool.

I haven't made these yet but they sound good.

Cat Treats

7 oz. mashed sardines
1/4 cup dried milk
1/2 cup wheat germ

Roll into 24 little balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Back at 350
until browned.

DH said he didn't mind cooking for the dog, but I have to do the sardines!

Thanks, Marianne! Can't wait to do these.

I like sardines. We actually had sardines on toast for lunch today. It's one of our cold day lunches. Then soup for dinner. And the flannel sheets are on the bed-two weeks earlier than normal-welcome to Fall!!
Oops, this is a Pet Treat post, got a little carried away there!

I dunno about the cool weather - I'm still barefooted and in shorts. DH is jonesing for chili beans, and I'm sitting under the fan, so cool weather better come on soon.

If your DH gets his chili beans you better be up wind from the Fan!

So would you treat these dog treats like home made cookies, where they are good for just a couple of days? Or do they have a longer shelf life?

TIA
Pat

Because they are so dried out in the oven after baking, they last very well in an airtight jar or tin for quite awhile. I think I used to put half the batch in the freezer and half in a tin to use first as I only gave the dog one a day or every other day as a treat.

Thanks for the info.

I finally made the cat treats last month. They got four paws down from Honey. I took them over to a friend's cat and while she liked the smell she also gave them 4 paws down. Even my friend's husband spit one out when he realized it might not be a treat for him. So that is two hands down from a human. So the treats went off to some barn cats who I was assured would eat anything.

Not sure I would recommend them now. I wish I had tried one.

My cats like sardines but seem to prefer chewy treats. Which generally means my fingers.
