I have my photo on the front of my cc, which I think is a wonderful Idea.
More often than not, most stores around my area let you swip your own card and the clerk never touches the card.

You know why they ask for SSN? They use it to do a credit check. I agree it sucks, but sometimes it is the only way to do business with a company. AZ used to issue the drivers license with your SSN on it. I was glad when they changed that policy!
I'm loving the new "blink" ability on one of my CCs. I don't have to swipe it or hand it to the clerk. Just get it over the blink symbol on the newer card readers. Of course if the card is stolen, the thief can do the same thing, which is a downside.
I also have stopped using checks in stores. Debit or credit card only for me. I sign my CC, not my debit card, and I prefer when they ask for ID. I actually get annoyed when they are supposed to ask and do not. Fraud makes all our prices higher!
