Bernie Berlin - Magazine Paper/Gesso & magazine images
Re: Bernie Berlin - Magazine Paper/Gesso & magazine images
ok here are my attempts. i made an artistic puppy. he's ready to get crafty with his marker and stash of papers. pam's mention of vampire got my wheels turning on the second one. the image is from a japanese cell phone ad. it was rounded at the bottom so i finished off his shirt & arms.

Here is one. The birdhouse image came from Birds and Blooms magazine and I have a light coat of Gesso over it then added stickles. The stamped image is Stampin' Up! and says A kind word is like a spring day. I then pop dotted it over a background that I used Distress ink on then edged in gold leaf

I love it. I'm so scared to do the gesso.
You did a great job with it though. I think I might be inspired by it.

I also have some transparent gesso. Cool look without the stress for drawing!

I LOVE gesso--buy it by the gallon.

Here is my gesso one. I have to say this was very difficult for me. This is my third attempt at it and I'm still not all that happy with it.

I love it! Look at that little gnome! Have you tried a face yet? I'm going to do a couple more - she swears you will become more comfortable drawing faces over time if you use this technique. Try something simple like a girl's face and give her a completely different hair style or a witch's face, hair & hat. My flops were unrecognizable! They made me laugh, anyway!

Here are my attempts with these two magazine techniques.
The two ATCs are a hummingbird painted with luminescent paint over a mouth and nose photo glazed pink. Added the flower and my first time using Flower Soft for the center. The artichoke was from an ad about how far our food travels so it had the mileage counter on it. I added the little gopher or whatever he is.
The two bookmarks I could use some suggestions of what to do with them. I like them but think they need something else.
Last time we did this, I hated the gesso over the faces so I took an abstract artpiece and turned the shapes into birds. I colored them with oil pastels and then sprayed with fixative so it wouldn't rub off. Made it into a card.

Everyone is posting some really great stuff! When we started this on the other board way back when, the magazine stuff was where I stopped. I tried several different things and I just wasn't happy with any of it. I think maybe it's time to try again.
Marianne - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of applying these ideas to other things. I think ATC sizes are great for trying stuff out, but using the techniques on cards and bookmarks is wonderful. I might try one of these techniques on a bookmark and see if I like it better than any of my ATC attempts.
