Blog Train

Post by pbp908 »

Stumbled across this tonight and thought I'd share it. I have got to quit collecting digi files!

I hit all 100 of the links. Thankfully not all of them worked, and thankfully there were a lot of them that I just flat didn't want. I've adopted a new rule of thumb with digi files - had to! If I wouldn't buy it or use it IRL, then I'm not downloading it.

I discovered that blog train in August, and it was maybe the second week that train had been up, and many of the parts were just too hard to find. I've done maybe half of this one. Many of the designers didn't have their parts up the first day, so I just skipped them. I don't know if I'll keep going on this one or not though - 100 is just too many! I'll maybe do a few more today, since you mentioned it, but I doubt I'll wind up wind up with much more than I've already got.

Blog trains are great for building mega kits, but I have found that once I've settled on a few designers I consistently like, that it's probably easier to just pick through and choose their stuff and be done with it.

Something I've stumbled across that I like a little better is when a particular CT (creative team) decides to do their own train, or something that's small, but released over a few days. There was a kit called "Wicked" that is really cute, and it was three designers releasing parts over three days. One day was papers, one day was embellishments, and one day was quick pages. I think I got all of the parts of that, and it's probably the cutest Halloween kit I've got.

Darn. Wish I'd seen the Wicked kit. I went through and deleted a ton of stuff because it was either cutsey or repetitive. DH says keep it all, but if I know I'll never use it - it's trash. I'm slowly cleaning up a lot of my early downloads now and dumping a lot of it. I have found one or two designers that I really like, but I'm afraid a lot of what I'm liking is their scrapping style, not necessarily their kits, so it's a learning process. A lot of fun, tho.

I'd clean up the trash if I were smart, but I think until space actually starts to become an issue, I'm not likely to do it. I detest clutter, but if it's on the computer, then I'm not having to stare at it, and it's much easier to just leave it.

I'm with you on the designer dilemma though. I've found that I've downloaded hundreds of quickpages that I absolutely LOVE, but when it comes to their actual usefulness, well... not so much. So they're pretty to look at, but when push comes to shove, they don't work with my subject matter. Finding that balance of what I like and what's actually useful is still something I'm working on. :-)
