Shimelle’s color class

Post by pamcook »

Here’s the first page. I didn’t deviate from her page (except for the colors and paper collection).
#shimelleclass (do hashtags work in our forum?).

Here’s the page for this week. Again quadrants but the focus is on choosing colors to use (opposite corners).

Here are the reference cards I completed yesterday. I still want to make some for pink & teal. I stamped the fronts and on the back, I splotched the mists, added gelato and neocolor watercolor crayons (hoping I’ll remember to use them). When I had washi in the appropriate color, I added a small piece. Apparently I’m an out if sight, out of mind type person. For sure I’m a bandwagon shopper because no way would I have bought all these colors if Tim hadn’t told me to.
These are swatches I see myself using!

I wonder how hard it would be to organize my stuff by colors?

If only I had enough patients to do this.
I can never get through my whole scrap room at one time.

Jill, I understand! I’ve rebelled against making swatches. I’d start and then give up. This was an assignment for Shimelle’s class and I almost didn’t make them. I pulled them out several times today while making page kits for the beach. What a time saver. I have a running list on my desk if the colors I need to bring (instead of wild guesses). Those 2 1/4” x 6” strips hold a lot of information!

See? SEE? All you swatch nay-sayers... LOL. I LOVE my swatch book. With a, ahem, healthy stash it's not something you complete overnight, but it is an invaluable resource. Plus, it's just fun to pull your stuff out and make them.
I'm in Shimelle's class, but because I'm away I haven't completed any lessons yet. I typically know what product I want and just need to decide on the colour, so my swatches to date have been by product - all Distress inks on one page, all mists on one page, etc. However I am going to make some single-colour swatch cards to add in my book, mostly as a reminder of those other products I own that I don't typically reach for. I especially want to do them for the colours I don't reach for often: yellows, drab greens, purples, browns. I know exactly what turquoise products I have :)

Okay. I’ll say it… Keitha, you were right.
This might be hard to believe but I might have been over thinking the whole ordeal - I mean - idea. For some reason, this variation has clicked with my brain. No need for a card for each shade of each color.

Laurie, when you have a few minutes, FaceTime me and I’ll explain. It’s much simpler than you might imagine.

Today’s class was about using 3 colors.
Given that the 3 predominant colors in this group of photos is red, blue, and yellow - and we were at the movies - I chose the star paper background.
One of those bittersweet memories.

At this point the only thing I now have organized by color is my cardstock, fibers and ribbons, and metal pieces. The rest of it is pretty much catch as catch can. I'm not even sure why I still have fibers.

Thanks Jenni. The shading on the right side isn’t there IRL. I’m using up some Cocoa Vanilla Boys Rule and their Legendary collections. I’ve hoarded them for entirely too long.
