6 x 6 Class - Week #18 LOs

Post by pbp908 »

I almost feel like Scarlet O'Hara in that scene where she's clutching the clod of dirt in her hand and vowing to never be hungry again. That's pretty much how I feel about banners and flags.

Just out of curiosity - why can't we see the name of the file we're embedding anymore? Not being able to see it is a PITA when you're uploading more than one photo/file.

Both are so very nice!

Are you finding that you use your 6x6 paper pads or scraps. One thing for sure, none of us can say we don’t know what to do with all those scraps in our stash.

Not once we've posted it Jill, but as we're adding it and before hitting the submit button.

Pam, I had very few 6x6 pads when I signed up for the class. I primarily wanted to use the things up which was why I took the class. Now I have a stack of the dratted things and a zip lock bag full of scraps left over from the classes. Too bad they didn't design ALSB type LOs for it! I'll more than likely use the scraps for die cutting and tend to ignore the pads - pretty much like I did before. I seriously doubt that I'll use many of these LOs again. I like layering, but I'm not a fan of the LOs we did with so many different papers. It was hard for me to find a good balance that wouldn't detract from the photos. To be perfectly honest I wish I'd used my scraps stash instead of the 6x6 pads.

Good job Pam and Jill. I have a binder of every week I can refer back to. I’ve probably only done 8-10 of these sketches so far.

Pam - I think the full length strips in work just as well in this layout as the banners do. And I don't really think the banners would have gone with the 50s vibe at all. Nicely done.

Jill - love the cheerleading layout!

Here's mine. I used my hex punch this time and had far better results with nipping the banners. I liked this sketch because it used larger photos, and a lot of them. This is Nicole and her BFF at a flag/rifle camp in 2019. It needs a title... maybe. Might just skip it. I'll probably leave this sketch out and use it again for something in another year because it was easy and because it accommodates larger photos. And I'll probably go after the scrap bin, rather than small pads. I keep using papers from a single pad, but I find myself really preferring layouts that don't have such a wide color palette. I want to try something more monochromatic with this sketch.

As I said earlier, I do like this sketch, and intended to do it again. For this one, rather than 6x6 patterned paper, I used monochromatic POPs, and let the texture be the pattern. I'm questioning the stark white background, but aside from that, I kind of love it. The yellow word strips are directly from the football program that year. It was the 2017 Howell motto, and I thought it fit perfectly with a page about the band families pitching in during the marching competition season.

OK, that is outstanding Pam. I mean, the wide stripes are a bit reminiscent of the banners, and I think it totally works. I am reminded of some super old wide stripe paper that I know I have somewhere that I think would look really good with your take on this sketch.

Only two more weeks to go!!!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one am super proud of myself for (almost) getting through this entire class. And I absolutely will finish those last two weeks come hell or high water. Many of these weeks have been way out of my comfort zone, but it will be nice to see these layouts sprinkled in with all of the other kit pages that are pretty much my go-to.

Thanks - that’s what I was going for - the stripes. I found that paper buried pretty deep. Always thought I’d use the other side. Surprise! I added the brick paper because the way the stripe paper tore, it underlined the word “Paris” on the background paper. Now it looks like I always intended to use the brick paper. ;)
