April 2021 Card Challenge: Backgrounds Times Two!

Post by paddlegal »

Happy Spring everyone! I am enjoying 80 degree weather already! I know that isn’t the case elsewhere and I hope you all see signs of Spring soon.

This month’s challenge is about background stamps. All you need is just one background for this easy way to make 2 cards at once. This is not an original idea of mine. I have taken this from a Cassie Trask YouTube video. She is a favorite of mine to watch and be inspired by. I don’t always care for the stamps she uses but her designs and techniques are always interesting plus she is just pleasant to listen to.

Link to her video for this card: https://youtu.be/ZlO0vUX4ch4. But I have also written out some brief instructions below.

Materials for an A2 card:

1 Background stamp to make 2 cards
Sentiment stamps
Clear embossing ink
Embossing powder. Can be any kind. I used clear but white, gold, black...whatever appeals to you.
Inks for blending and stamping
2, 5.5 X 4.25 white card stock panels
Stamp platform (extremely helpful but not necessary) like a Tim Holtz or MISTI and many others. I used my WeR Memory Keepers Precision Press Advanced. My go to stamp platform.

Optional: this is also another way to use up those 6x6 papers if you don’t want to stamp!

Instructions:

1. Panel one: stamp background on A2 size panel using embossing ink. Emboss using embossing powder of your choice and heat set. Once cooled off, add colored ink to background with blending applicator all over panel. Then with soft towel or paper towel buff off excess ink from embossed image.

2. Panel two: stamp same image using any color of ink compatible with the color you used to blend on panel one.

3. Now take both panels, one on top of the other, and cut on paper trimmer at an angle.

4. Swap pieces so each card has one of each of the two designs. Attach the two pieces together on the back using tape.

5. Now cut each new panel down to 4 X 5.25. On a strip of card stock stamp sentiment and adhere across the diagonal line to cover where the two pieces meet. I used foam tape for the sentiments. Trim strip if needed. Adhere to card base, add some bling and you’re done!

They're beautiful and I love the stamps but you know I had a panic attack thinking it was April already and I was using the wrong scheduling calendar all day. I played with bright colors all weekend and they make me smile.

We're under a frost warning for tonight. Today is just absolutely beautiful. This is perfect weather in my book. 62 degrees with bright Carolina Blue skies. Would I get bored with it? HECK NO! I never got bored with the perfect weather in San Diego either. Bad/extreme weather is most always a short drive away.

Sorry Pam for the scare. I had it done early for once and thought I’d better post it right away or maybe forget and post it late, LOL.

Our weather man has lied to us! What was to be a warm spring day is actually much cooler with extreme wind warnings. And it has definitely picked up. Stay warm!

Farley, for some reason, I was thinking you used background stamps. You didn’t, did you? I’m going to make these cards tomorrow. Cross my heart.

I did it. I did it. I did it!
I have ink everywhere - my fingers, my forearms... and an ink eraser really does work for those splotches where the ink you didn’t know you had on your hand ends up on the edges of the card.
That was fun Farley!

I don't have much in the way of background stamps so I used paper for my cards. These patterned papers are from the Craft Consortium Ink Drops - Dusk 12x12 paper pad.

Jill love that paper and your cards are terrific.

Pam, yes one set I did use background stamps but anything goes here. And you did it! And they are terrific and sounds like you must have had fun if there was that much ink all over, LOL.

Sue using paper instead of stamps is perfect. Those are lovely cards and gorgeous papers.
