Update: Going Down Under
Re: Update: Going Down Under
It didn’t occur to me that you were without your moving goods. Of course! I just read Ray’s blog and see you should have it sometime in November! It will be like Christmas just as Pam said. Love Ray’s photos of your trip to Point Vernon. It all looks like you’ve chosen an ideal spot to live. Hope you are having a chance to meet some crafters and making new friends.

That's the bad news, Debbie!Debbie J wrote:That’s cool you can track it, how long will it take to reach you?
It is supposed to get to Melbourne about Nov 13, then it has to be trucked to Brisbane/go through customs and get unloaded at the company depot. I'll be surprised if we get it before Christmas.
Re: Update: Going Down Under
Wow, it has been quite the journey to get all settled. Hoping it arrives by Christmas.
Re: Update: Going Down Under
I would have waved to it if I'd known it was going past us!!

Re: Update: Going Down Under
Everything is here! Our shipment arrived in Sydney and then was trucked to Brisbane about Dec. 17. Due to another border closure because of hotspots of virus in Sydney, our moving company couldn't get it on the 21st, then they had their annual two week holiday and finally on January 7 at 7 am they delivered our 75 boxes. Since then we have been unpacking. Ray has done a blog post here:

Robin was able to fly up here on the 20th, the day before the border closed, stayed a week and then flew back to Sydney.
Here is my sewing/craft room after I had shoved most of the craft stuff into the closets on the right. Boxes against the wall are quilts and fabric. My sewing machine made it in one piece but I haven't tried it yet. I have a small transformer to convert it from 110 to 240.
But this is the exciting photo for scrappers! I finally have all my albums and family history boxes in a closet with doors and they aren't hanging off narrow bookcase shelves. When we bought this place I knew I wanted shelves in one of the guest room closets so Ray took down the hanging rod and put these in a few months ago while we were waiting for our stuff. He also put shelves in another closet in my sewing room.
Anyone know why I can't use the Place Inline button for the photos?

Yay! Finally!

Happy unpacking!
Re: Update: Going Down Under
Hooray! You must feel like you’re finally home.
The place inline button usually works for me. When it doesn’t, I resize it one size smaller. Hope that’s helpful.

Yes, this does seem to be the end of a two year saga to get here. I never had a problem resizing before. My files are miniscule, 33kb, and I used to make them about the maximum, 256 and had no problem.
Re: Update: Going Down Under
I was just thinking the other day I hadn't heard if you'd received your shipment; how wonderful that it's finally there and you can now get truly settled. Will you put up a quilt wall as you had at the house?
I wasn't able to use the place inline button recently either; figured it was just me but now I'm wondering. In the end I didn't bother posting my photos at all that day.
Welcome home, Marianne!

Re: Update: Going Down Under
I just went back to the beginning of this thread and read through it, and holy cow! What an undertaking! I'm glad you're finally home and starting to get settled.
Rob and I have started thinking about moving, because once the kids are gone, this house is just too big for us to need or take care of. And the upstairs would be 100% vacant and I worry about missing stuff like roof leaks or bathroom water problems. And to that end, we're finally starting to embrace the idea that using the next 5 years to purge is going to be a whole lot better than trying to pack it all. But when it comes right down to it, all 4 of us are hoarders, and it's really difficult to part with stuff. But we know that moving all of that stuff would be an absolute nightmare - and we're not likely even leaving the state - much less go half way around the world!
Anyway, glad to see you're getting settled.

Marianne how wonderful! That closet with the shelving turned out perfect...well done Ray! So happy for you that your home is coming together finally. And so nice that Robin was able to be with you too.
