July Neglected Supplies Challenge - Metallics

Post by pbp908 »

July crept up on me! I'll have a sample finished soon.

Think creatively. Metal embellishments; metallic embossing powders, paint, inks or wax; metal sheets. It doesn't have to all shine - create some faux finishes with weathered copper or rusty goodness. It's all good.

And you might want to add some "heavy metal" into your play list while you're creating.

Of course I just dropped off a bag of metallic embellishments at the thrift store. Betcha I can still find more in my stash though.

This challenge reminded me that I cut out a bunch of aluminium sheets from my working days where we made beverage containers before I retired 6 years ago. They are about 4 inches by 7 inches so a good size for card fronts. The aluminium cut like butter and all the little pieces came right out. I used white glitter embossing for the ‘thinking of you’ but doesn’t really show up that well. Now I have lots of ideas for cutting stuff out of this aluminium. It didn’t adhere very well so I did add brads on each corner.

Yay, Debbie! Love it! You might try using Ranger Multi Medium Matte or Glossy Accents to hold the metal if you have any on hand. Clear Gorilla Glue works well, too.

This looks terrific Debbie. Are the edges of the aluminium sharp?

I was careful because I have been the recipient of a lot of cuts from my job. We started out with steel and then years later aluminum. The edges are a little sharp but not bad and no blood was shed over this card! Lol

I apologize for posting a challenge and then not adding my examples.

These were done using black cardstock and the TH Foundry 3D Texture Fade. I tried using his adhesive backed mirror but it was wayyyy too thick, so I'll try again later using regular silver mirror. Because the paper was lightly spritzed before embossing there were some areas that had some additional texture that I really liked. The medium that I used to tint the paper was a variety of colored metallic waxes, which I love when working on mixed media pieces. I'm also going to try creating some faux finishes with watercolor paper and embossing them, so lots more experimenting coming up.

#1 - aqua wax with a little green here and there. #2 - copper wax. #3 - I was going for a tarnished copper so copper, aqua and green waxes. #4 - silver with a little rusty red in places. #5 - silver wax.
