April CP Club Sursee Card #1

My April Club Sursee arrived yesterday so I had to make at least one card. It’s another great set and I am always amazed at how terrific each month is. I need to make a small pile of thank you cards and this could be a good set to make a few with.

Stamps, paper and ink are all CP. The thank you is from Altenew.

Catherine Pooler is based in Raleigh and apparently “Sursee” is a Southern colloquialism for a surprise. Typically we don’t know what is in the Sursee set until it arrives though there are often hints and little spoilers.

I did a bit of searching for the origin of the word "sursee," which has many spellings as it's a spoken or oral word. This is what I found as far as origin, not just geographical usage (although that was the first thing cited)::

Surcee is a word, used in the South, that is believed to have its origins in the Scotch and Irish who settled in the region. The Scottish word for "surprise" is pronounced much like "surcee" and could be a phonetic form passed down from generation to generation. Another possible origin for the word is from the Irish term "sussie" which means to care.

I don't have a Scottish Gaelic dictionary so I couldn't confirm it, and I've found that places like Google Translate are not all that dependable. My understanding has always been that it was a French expression, so still Gaelic in origin - perhaps with roots in Occitan which is a hard language in itself?

Whatever the origin, it's still a nice bit of a surprise when you receive one.

Terrific card Farley. What everyone else said; plus, I like how you didn't centre the white piece but adhered it flush with the right side of the card. The little details do make all the difference.

Beautiful card, Farley! While it looks simple, there is so much detail to it.

It reminds me of the cards on the Less is More blog/website and their challenges each month.
