JANUARY 2020 Card Technique Challenge
JANUARY 2020 Card Technique Challenge
HAPPY NEW YEAR DEAR CRAFTING FRIENDS!
I hope to “freshen” up my monthly card challenges by offering a different (not necessarily new) technique each time. Each month we will make cards in the hope that you will try the specific technique that I include. I will do my best to create them with supplies you are likely to have...I hope. This is also a plan for us to USE WHAT WE HAVE ON HAND, and hopefully not cause more purchases...though if you do, that is quite acceptable.
Here we go...
Colored Pencils on Colored Card Stock
This is obviously a work in progress and I will post my completed project soon. I wanted to get reacquainted with colored pencils and saw this technique on YouTube. Select a stamp you would like to color with pencils but stamp the image on colored card stock. Use either a permanent black ink for the image or a colored one that might “disappear” once all is colored in. I will do a sample of that next. Color each section with a white pencil first then apply 2 to 3 blendable colors in that section to shade with. Or just one color...your choice. I found 3 colors worked for me after laying down the white. Once I used the 2 to 3 colors in each petal I re-blended with the white bringing a smoother almost ombré look to the flower. The white really gives the image a glowing light that appeals to me.
This large flower image was stamped with a permanent black ink on green card stock. I used Prismacolor Pencils which are on the soft waxy side and worked well with the blending.
I can’t wait to see what you all do with this technique...can’t wait to see how mine turns out too!

Oh my! How beautiful and I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of this technique!
Of course I sent all the prisma colored pencils to the UAE. I’m sure there must be some others stashed away somewhere.

Looks like fun Farley, I’ll try to get to this challenge.
Re: JANUARY 2020 Card Technique Challenge
Interesting technique Farley. I don't have the patience for coloured pencil work, but look forward to seeing what others do with it.

I’m not sure I have the patience either but fun to explore.Keitha wrote:Interesting technique Farley. I don't have the patience for coloured pencil work, but look forward to seeing what others do with it.

I really want to try this. I've liked to color for as long as I can remember. It's a good idea for Wendy and I when she finishes the current work cycle and we can Crafternoon again!
Re: JANUARY 2020 Card Technique Challenge
I have a hard time with the movements it takes for the tiny spaces since I broke my wrist

Jill I’m so sorry your wrist injury has limited you to some movements. I’m sure as the year goes on I will have plenty of techniques that aren’t quite as intensive. I have to admit that I am coloring this flower a few minutes at a time. I couldn’t have selected a more involved stamp than this multi-petaled flower. But I really like this huge flower for a single focal point for a card.

This has taken way too long. laptop and pic re size...grrrrr
Any hoo, my humble attempt to do this coloring challenge.
I find I am NOT an artistic colorist in any sense of the word.

Pat I think it’s terrific! That was a great stamp too and perfect choice for this challenge. And I’m so happy to know you are feeling up to crafting already!
