Dorian forecast

Post by nchoney »

Posted this on FB, too.. but just posting it everywhere... maybe that'll make it go away...

So now Dorian is forecast to not make landfall in Florida... but to bounce off and quickly head north up the coast. East of SC on Wednesday and coming up the Pamlico Sound on Thursday. Not happy about this. Have to spend the next two days putting everything up again. This is the same path Irene took... hopefully with lower wind speeds though.

We’re ready for it - except for stocking up on ice. If nothing else steers it away, that will.

Coastal Sisters (including central N.C. and Beki), please keep us updated.

if you follow on Ventusky.com ... click on Wind Speed for the option... and then there's a calendar at the bottom that you can advance about 10 days out... and you can click to view the 3-hour increments... that seems to be a good guide to a blend of all the "models"

Anyway... just checked again... still coming up the coast.. but the wind as it passes through the sound looks like it'll be blowing southeast at that point... that means, where I'm concerned, that it'll be more like Isabel and cause some damage at the southern end of the island... rather than like Irene and be blowing straight out of the west and flooding us. Still will see some water, but maybe not as much. Still praying, though. And it looks to be heading through early on Thursday and then getting the hell out of Dodge quickly.

And hopefully Jim Cantore already has his reservations booked for Florida. He is NOT welcome on Hatteras Island.

I think a lot depends on what happens with that high pressure system. All I know is that I do NOT need to be flooded for another 6 months!

Everyone keep feeding "go away" thoughts!

Neither of us needs flooding.... I'm just hoping my house stays dry... but I'm prepping for the other possibility...

Doubt I'll get any help from Mike... his comment is "It's too early to tell what it'll do... it's still 5 days away" .... so... does he even think about how close that is? Shaking my head :-(

Men have no clue. At least I got George and Chris to fill up all of the jerry cans and the vehicles.

We're good on all that kind of stuff.... fire dept. :-)

And if I get flooded, I won't really need gas because I'll just be at home mucking out the house... again...

But... praying and hoping and wishing that this thing keeps going eastward!!!

I think about all the bizarre hurricane paths I’ve watched and tell myself to expect the worst and hope for the best. Debi, I don’t know how you all do it over and over again.
Reading comments from both of you reassured me we’ve done about as much as we can do (please Lord don’t let trees fall on our house or cars!) and now I’ll have to deal with all the patients who’ll want to reschedule on top of our usual case load.

We arrived on Ocracoke yesterday afternoon for our annual Labor Day vacation. Beautiful Carolina Blue skies this AM and being so thankful for what we have and the ability to enjoy this magnificent place - if for even a little while! Heading off to the sea and sand now, hoping not to be evacuated...Deb D, you ,Mike and Chevy are always welcome to head inland with us if needed (we're dog friendly). Praying everyone in Dorian's path stays safe.
Find time each day to rejoice in the journey...

Thanks... Chevie isn't dog friendly, though... so she's probably going to hang out at the fire station with us Thursday as this blows through. Hopefully the winds die down once it starts hitting land... looks like it's coming up the sound again... so need lower speeds when it does that
