September 2018 Card Challenge - Boxed Sets - Samples Up

Post by paddlegal »

Happy 1st day of September! We’ve actually been having cooler temps here in the Central Valley and the smoke is diminishing after 5 weeks of bad air. What a relief and I hope our neighbors to the North are getting their much deserved relief too.

I’ve been busy, busy, busy with birding obligations (tough, I know) so I am behind with posting my idea let alone making a sample. But...here’s my idea: With holidays coming up, parties to go to, gifts to exchange, I think it would be fun to make at least one set of 4 cards to give as a hostess gift, office gift exchange or family holiday gifts for that hard to gift person...I bet you all have one of those in your family. And if you’re really ambitious, make a box for the set or an attractive, creative way to present the cards.

Keep watching this spot as I make my first set and post them here. I would love to see not only the cards but how you will “wrap” them.

If you're doing it as a Christmas gift, here's one idea for a card holder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QytZ0wffxQ. Somewhere I have a template to make an easy card holder from one 8.5 X 11 piece of paper, and there are also the card holder boxes that I think someone from CS had the directions to initially. I know I made several of those, because I liked the pop the lid off and the cards were right there, with room for address labels and stamps if you wanted to include them.

It's a great challenge, Farley! I don't know that I'll get to it this month, as I have a little over a week's vacation mid-month and insanity before then, but by October perhaps. :)

One set is done. I’m still stuck in wreath building mode, LOL. These are 4.5 X 4.5 square cards which probably will need extra postage since I made the envelopes at 5 X 5. If I do give this as a gift, I’ll include the proper postage. These are all made with Catherine Pooler stamps and inks. I love her little icons for this style.

Thanks Monica for the link. I hope to make another set with a proper box for it. This time to get something posted I just tied the 4 cards and envelopes up with ribbon and then will put them inside a cellophane envelope perhaps.

I made something!!!!!
I know what you are going to say...this looks familiar...like CS Fizz. I caved and bought the CS You Go Girl kit earlier this year, to make cards, and I did. One thing CS taught us was how to make things, this card case for one. Pretty basic no frills cards. Followed the directions for the most part. Used a lot of Dazzles, because I have a lot! Think I'll keep this for me, as it is not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. ;)

Wow Pat! Don't sell yourself short here. Your cards are wonderful and that style case is a great idea. Fizz was a great kit.

Funny, I first learned about CS by watching (can't remember the name of the webisode site I watched regularly...Stamp TV?) Tricia making an album out of heavy card stock CD cases using Fizz papers. I was hooked, signed up for the Card Kit immediately and the rest is history.

Thanks for playing Pat.

Pat, these are wonderful. I may still have a piece or two of Fizz in my stash. Your cards make me smile.

Farley...I have a BUNCH of those CD cases if you'd like to reminisce a bit...

In fact, if there is anything anyone may want CS wise, I may have it, just ask. ;)

By the way, I really like your card set Farley!

Thank you for your kind words ladies.

Wow, I'm inspired to make some card sets when I get home. I've forgotten about them as hostess gifts.

As for that Fizz CD case album project, I thought it was brilliant. Never got around to making one but I had those paper CD cases for years before I gave up on doing it. I may still have them...
