July 2018 Card Challenge - Embossing Folder Focal Point
July 2018 Card Challenge - Embossing Folder Focal Point
I got inspired by a Jennifer McGuire video this week using embossing folders as a background and focal points. This is my spin on her idea. I did not go to the extremes that she does. Her cards were gorgeous.
Instructions:
Find an embossing folder that has distinctive images (I know you have at least one).
Ink up the side that creates the recessed area or the floor as I call it. I used CP dye inks. Oxides would be great also but any dye ink will work.
Run white or colored card stock and inked folder through your machine - CLEAN off the ink!
Now run another card stock and same folder again...this will be your background.
Isolate an image on the inked embossed panel and die cut it out.
Create a frame for it (optional). I created frames by cutting multiples and then glueing them together.
Now layer all elements onto a card base.
I’ve left off sentiments purposely. I don’t know how I want to use them or I may just keep them as note cards. I had fun making these and I hope you do too.

Farley, these are fabulous. I especially love the last one.
I'd like to give this a try. I hope I have a folder that works.

WOW - love your take on that technique - your cards are beautiful!
Re: July 2018 Card Challenge - Embossing Folder Focal Point
I don't have a lot of embossing folders and the ones I do own are pretty much all over backgrounds - no focal points. But....I found one that kinda worked. This is a fun technique and I will definitely try it again. Thank you, Farley.
Now, I have a question about Distress Oxide Inks. Do you all heat set them or let them dry for a long time before continuing with your project? I love them, but they tend to smear all over and if I get it on my fingers without knowing it, I smear some more. Tips? Ideas? Solutions? Or..... is it my cardstock?

Sue! So creative with those dies! Yes, I’m assuming you used more than one.
Not sure about the D.O. issue. I don’t use them often enough.

WOW, WOW, WOW Sue! This turned out fantastic. So glad you gave this a try and made such a great card.
Though I have to watch out for Oxides on my fingers, I haven't had smearing problems really. I generally use Bristol card stock for most of my projects and I haven't bothered to heat set. It does dry well on it's own and in a reasonably short time.

Very nice, Sue! I like the way you inked the embossing folder for the focal points. I love that effect!
I don't know about the smearing of DOs. It's been so long since I used them.
