I think I am old

Never heard of a "black cow" (except upstate NY in the dairy region). We just called them plain old root beer floats. Haven't had one in years. But and "Egg Cream" Now I could take one of those!

This is the only place where I'm a youngster! Oldest grandchild on one side, second oldest on the other, and work with a lot of people younger than me.

And I do have memories of going to the A&W and having the car hop bring us frosty glass mugs with root beer floats... ;) I cut out carbonated drinks years ago but once or twice a year I have to get my float fix.

I've never heard them referred to as Black Cows. Great page Jill, and fabulous title!

I think it is a regional name and I've heard of it but not while growing up in NJ. I always thought the combo of ice cream and soda was disgusting but I would see them making them at the lunch room next door to our house. But they were Italians from Philly so who knows what they called them!
