Very nice cards! I love this technique and haven't done it in awhile. Fully intend to do this one, but I'm off to the Middle Ages this week end and won't get to it for a week or two. I've been full on sewing garb and making a Viking tent the last month and haven't had a single minute to spare for paper crafts. I'll try to remember to take lots of pics at our event so I can share.

I don't actually make Christmas cards, so mine isn't. In fact I was reminded as I did this why I rarely make cards at all; in the time it took me to pull this together I could have scrapped a layout, LOL. So here is my sad, final attempt at a masked card. The first one, while perhaps not an epic fail, was definitely a major fail. I started with the Ranger Specialty stamping paper and while it's great for stamping on, it's a son of a gun to get a subtle blend on. Then I switched to watercolour paper; this is Strathmore 140 lb. from a pad and I used the smoother side. I won't bore you with all the things that didn't go as planned, but I will remind anyone working with Distress inks that it really helps to heat set each colour before you move on. I've also found that for some reason I have way more control with the original TH rectangular blending tool than with the newer little round one. Go figure. I'm not loving this but I'm also not prepared to have another go; I'm giving it a solid 5.5. Maybe.

I'm with you though - I could have made a scrapbook page in less time. But that's the case with all the cards I make.

Oh, Keitha! I love it. I'm impressed - you did a ton more masking there than I do. I'm with you on the rectangular tool. If I need something smaller, I use a Q tip, but only under duress.

Gosh, I didn't mean to scare anyone off! The tutorial was only because so many had asked how I made that particular card, and I was going to do it at the beach. You can use anything or any other masking method you choose.

The first card was made using a Crafter's Workshop limb template on blue paper. The only ink I used was a taupey TH brown to make the limbs, and then a dark brown pencil to fill in gaps and make shadows. A bit of white paint for snow, and some watered paint splatters for snow drops. The second card I masked so the truck wouldn't overstamp the fence line, and then added some snowdrops with Perfect Pearls. The truck is much bluer IRL - my scanner is overexposing like crazy.

Am I remembering correctly that not too long ago PamP you said you weren't a card maker? OMGoodness! That card with the bare branches and snow is just jaw-dropping-stunning! You have a terrific eye for shading and shadowing. Just fantastic.
