2016 Christmas Cards - January

Post by pamcook »

I didn't expect to have today off from work so thought I'd take advantage of the extra time and get a head start!
For my card, I did a Pinterest search. You've seen this idea everywhere! I have all these scraps lying on my desk and hate to throw them away! We've all been busy so this card is very easy!

First I gathered supplies. You can use washi tape, ribbons, paper scraps, or strips cut from old Christmas cards or wrapping paper. You'll need texture medium and a stencil or a background stamp & embossing supplies, a greeting stamp, ink, and adhesive.

Create your background. Not sure if I'll use stencil & texture paste on all five since a stamped background is easier to mail but I love the look!

Here I used a piece of ribbon for the trunk, stamped the greeting, and added more texture paste so the tree didn't look like it was levitating!

I used the branding strips from a 6x6 paper pad for the branches. Because the ribbon was thick, I needed pop dots behind the paper strips. A star from my July 4th supplies topped the tree.

Use what you have on hand and post your creations here. Even if your card uses a different design, post your January cards here so we can all see!

Let me know if you have questions! If the photos are rotated, I'll fix them soon!

that's a great card Pam, and super idea.
I probably will be able to get to this next week, after the parents depart!

Funny, Pam. I just told Nancy I couldn't wait to see what your challenge would be. This is a good one.

I ended up using HS mist to splatter the backgrounds of the remaining four. I prefer the texture paste and stencil but not sure how it will hold up in the mail.
I love using up scraps!

Awesome Pam! Love the texture and the Kraft base. As soon as I get my January sketch card created and posted (I actually know what I'm going to do!) I'll get started on this.

Wonderful cards Pam! I have actually been making Christmas cards today using up some old CS kits that I still have around along with extras from my Anna Griffin kit from last year. I will for sure give your idea a go tomorrow when I plan on making more.

Just an aside, I think I mentioned I gave a bunch of cards to DIL & grands in PA to pass out when they went to the nursing home. They even made more but they still ran out. That is why I'm starting extra early. She told me one gentleman they gave a card to told them it was the most beautiful card he ever saw and was going to give it to his wife. Made my heart melt.

Great idea. I definitely have scrap paper. I was cutting down 12 x 12 paper for my JYC book which is 8 x 8. Plenty of leftovers for this kind of card!

Here are mine. I have a ton of this red paper in 8 1/2 by 11 so I made 6 to use up 3 sheets of it. That is my goal to use up all this red paper. This was fun and I loved being in my scrap room for a few hours. Thanks for the challenge Pam. I really hate the blurriness after resizing but it won't take anything bigger.
