2015 November Card Challenge - Tri-fold Screen Card

Post by paddlegal »

It's actually been semi-raining today! Woo hoo! Perfect weather to scrap, make cards or in my case make up our November Challenge.

So being the somewhat off-beat gal that I am  I decided that I would throw this out to you all and see what you can come up with. I got this idea from some of my card making friends who frequent Stampin' Up workshops. Their spin on it was to use pretty, printed cocktail napkins and apply them to this screen. I will do that also later but first I had a few other ideas to try as you will see below in my samples.

This card unfolds into a three panel screen and can be embellished to the hilt or not, using any theme you can come up with. I think this will be a great holiday card base along with the usual birthday, anniversary, etc.

Basic Instructions:

These are my measurements but you can adjust as you see fit.

Card Base: Cut stock 9 3/4 X 5 1/2.
Matte Panel: Cut stock 2 3/4 X 4
Central Panel: Cut stock 2 1/2 X 3 3/4

Score card base vertically at 3 1/4 and 6 1/2
Fold base up into a single panel.
Using a label punch (SU) or a die (shown on last photo...even a circle die will work here) punch out the shape to create the legs of the screen. I personally used a die. On medium to lightweight paper you can cut all three sets of legs with one pass using a die on the folded screen. Heavier stock will require two passes. A few times on one side of the folded screen will cut through two layers, then remove die, replace it on the back side according to the indentation that the die made and pass through again going back and forth a few times. I hope this is making sense.

My first photo doesn't quite show that the bamboo was also embossed...another thing to play with on this card. I used scraps and already cut images for this card. Scraps are perfect for this project. Second photo shows a possible kid card (probably will be my grandson's B-day card) using a number of papers from a 6x6 pad in my stash. Boy does that feel good to use stash. Last shows the measurements I listed above so it makes a little more sense.

One LAST tip...if you don't want to be so exact as my panel measurements above, do like I did and use nested dies for your panels.

Okay...that's it. This was long winded but I think you will have fun making at least ONE of these. I have one more in the works that I'll post at some point.

HAVE FUN with this.

Cheryl this card is screaming for Christmas ideas. My brain is going to explode with all I want to do with this screen. It's great for stamp sets that have a lot of elements but too many for a traditional, single panel card.

I've made these before, they are fun to decorate! Maybe these will be my Renegade project next week.

Perfect, Sue. Love this. I was trying to come up with a Fall or Thanksgiving cards but haven't yet.

Before lunch, I did finish two cards for this challenge but don't want to post them until they are received. Will get them up ASAP.
