Lovely Layered Card Class
Lovely Layered Card Class
I just signed up to take Shari Carroll's Lovely Layered Cards From Top To Bottom on Craftsy Online Classes. It's half off right now, $14.99, 7 video lessons. I've watched a part of lesson 1 and I'm hooked. I love her method and calm way of explaining things. Just in case you're interested:

I'll post some "art" when I get around to playing with the lessons.

This instructor isn't the best at instructing, but she has great techniques that I'm getting the general idea of. Haven't had time to get messy yet and so far it's mostly background techniques, but the wheels are turning in my head.

Re: Lovely Layered Card Class
I've been taking my time to go through the first lesson and make a few cards from what I've learned. Shari's lessons are great!
The first card's neat trick is stamping on water color paper with metallic Distress Paint. I used the pewter on the swirly flourish stamp from old CS Bandanarama. Then with several Distress colors on a craft mat the card is swiped through the colors. It's finished off with some Distress brown applied with a sponge applicator. I die cut some branches and birds from WPlus9 to make it a finished card.
Next was really simple. Use 2 Mini-Distress cube colors, one at a time, applied directly to a stencil then applied to a blank water color card. I added the horizontal stamps of a diamond pattern, flying Ibis and feathers. Embellished with a flock of wood veneer birds and I called it done.
Lesson 2 is all about paper collaging and matte medium. Both not very familiar to me. Once I get something done I'll post more. I am loving this class.

Very nice, Farley!
Re: Lovely Layered Card Class
Those are gorgeous!
I haven't started playing with any of the techniques from the watercolor class I bought... she was doing much more basic stuff.. but I picked up some more of the watercolor paper that was in my Tuesday Morning store... only 3.99 for a pad of 12 9x12 papers... so that was a decent savings and I won't be too nervous about screwing any of it up....
How did you color the birds? They look very cool. Was it the stamp? or did you do some fun coloring technique on those, too?

Oh my! That's my kind of class. I can tell you're learning techniques you'll be able to use over and over again.
They're beautiful.

Thanks everyone!
Debi those birds are stamps and they were just colored by using 2 Mini-Distress ink cube colors on them. Weathered Wood and Rusty Hinge.
