Paint Lab 52

Post by mpizzazz »

Last year I bought a book called Paint Lab. It is 52 painting exercises/techniques. I have been doing one a week and just finished 6 months of them. Since it looks like I'm going to keep doing them, I thought it was time to share.

Thank you!

And thanks very much, Cheryl, for leaving comments. It's interesting to see which ones appeal to people. These are not meant to be finished "works of art" but fairly quick (for me!) exercises in response to the prompts in the book. Most of the time I'm really enjoying it.

They may have been supposed to be quick
exercises but I think all of them are hangable

They're all fabulous. I think the fish and the bird ones are my favorite. Sounds like a great book to own.

Thank you for all your comments. Guess I have to keep it up for the rest of the year now.
A lot of them look like backgrounds to me but I'm trying to ignore that and just move on. They have been a good way to use gelli prints, specialty papers and fabrics, my own photographs, paints, etc.
The rainbow lorikeet (parrot) is my favorite so far.

Thanks, Carol. I first had the book from the library and then decided I would do the exercises so bought the book. I see she is publishing one called Color Lab in October. I hope it's as good.

It's a good exercise to work in a series. Keeps you practicing everyday or as often as you can. Great way to increase your skills. I just completed a 30 paintings in 30 days of watercolors. I did them on ATC size watercolor paper. Actually did about 40. It was a lot of fun. No pressure, just having fun painting. Some I liked more than others. The challenge to me was working on a smaller scale. :creating:

They are just wonderful! I'm having computer issues - it keeps shutting down when I open certain website. Will try to look at them more carefully tonight. I would never be able to choose a favorite!

I don't have a favorite, but a few did stay with me - the black and white geometric and the Airedale, especially. Loved them all.

I have this book sitting on a shelf.
I love your interpretations of the lessons. I know you said a lot look like backgrounds but to me backgrounds are often my favorite.
I might even need to try some of these.
