I'm curious as to how y'all navigate your way around the forums. Even after 5 years here, sometimes I feel like I'm missing things. Marianne and I have recently been discussing this; she prefers to View New Posts, whereas I choose to View Active Topics - and believe me when I say it took me years to figure out that was easier than scrolling through the board index looking at dates and deciding what threads I hadn't already read, LOL. I still don't understand the difference between those two - New Posts vs Active Topics. And then there's Avatars; I finally have a photo of myself I don't mind, but do you think I can actually resize it so the site will accept it? Um, that would be a resounding fail on my part! I did learn yesterday, however, that there are two board styles that one can choose to view - so if I disappear for awhile it's probably because I switched mine and got lost.

Anyway, I figured that maybe I'm not the only one who doesn't always see the current discussions, or perhaps isn't aware there's another way of doing things that might be easier. Would love to hear if you've got a handy tip for navigating the board here.

I do both of those and still miss stuff

Some days I'm just happy I can get "here" at all.

I tend to look at New Posts first. Sometimes I'll look at active posts if I'm looking for something and do not see it in the New Posts section.

Not sure about the two board styles. I guess I only know the one I use.

As for that picture...it was a challenge to resize for this site.

I use both those options but view new posts the most. When the board is quite and boring I look at view active topics to see if I've missed anything!

I usually hit the view active topics. I think that keeps me pretty up to date.

Like Debbie says, when the board is quiet or I'm bored, I'll go through Unread Posts. Not long I did do a blanket "Mark as Read" to get rid of the 42 pages of Unread messages. Maybe I shouldn't have admitted that,
Now I'm keeping up with them.

I look at Unread posts first, then active posts and then, of course, my posts to see if anyone has commented on my stuff. Because you know, it's all about ME.

And yes, Keitha, very nice photo. Great to see a face. I saw it first thing this morning and thought, hey, I don't know that gal. Then I saw it was YOU!

View new posts is my go to for the most part.

View Active Posts is what I always hit first.

I check the board several times a day, so I do "view active topics." If it's inactive, there's no new posts. I find I don't miss much, even though I don't comment as often as I should. It would be wonderful if we had a "like" button.
