April Card Sketch Challenge: SPLATS, SPLOTCHES AND SWIPES

Post by paddlegal »

Okay I got a little behind in my sketch making...so sorry. As I was dreaming up a sketch and getting nowhere I was looking at a NBUS of mine. :-o Yes! It's one of those pretty stamps I had to have and then had no idea what to do with it. So hence my sketch which is more of a technique challenge than a card design.

The objective is to use watercolors (splats), inks (splotches) and brush markers (swipes) or anything else to deliver some blocks of colors to create the background for those hard to use stamps. Really, just about any stamp will work with these different techniques. As the week goes by I will add a few step-by-step ideas on some very easy techniques which will most likely be available to you all to try. For now I just wanted to get this up and running so you can all start thinking about what you want to do. This got my creative juices going and I am looking forward to making more of this type of card and more importantly seeing your interpretation of my crazy idea.

This sketch is pretty basic. The first card was made with the feather cluster, the NBUS I spoke of. For the second card, I used what was right in front of me and just shows that any stamp works with this fun background technique.

Anything goes here so GO FOR IT!

Oh my. I would have bought that stamp as well. It's just beautiful.
I love this idea...my thinking cap is on...

My first one was a fail. I dropped the stamp on the card and there was no saving it.
This one - meh! It was prettier in my head. Going to give this idea more thought and try again later today.

Not a "meh" at all Pam. You've got a great idea going here and I like the little splatters and your pretty frame. Thanks for jumping right in on this idea.

Okay. This is one of those cards that started out in one direction and took a turn somewhere past Tucson. I'm happy with it but it surely doesn't look like I imagined it. Cactus set from PTI. Swashes from MFT.

YES Jen! Awesome use of those paint swipe stamps from MFT. Very fun card and the color combo is excellent. I have some backgrounds ready for future cards using that MFT set.

Pam you jumped right on this, you're a creative whiz lately! Looks pretty good to me.

Jen, those cacti look super on the dark blue background, like a desert night!

Here are a couple, using my Gorgeous Grunge stamps from SU. I used a few of the "splotches" and inked them up with Distress ink then spritzed and stamped.
I have a few more ideas for this challenge!
