March 2015 Challenge

Post by pamcook »

I hope to be so busy killing my kit that March arrives before I know it.

So - my challenge to you this month is to use a die FOUR ways. I am not asking you to go buy four new dies. Use ONE die that's already in your massive collection and use it FOUR different ways. Those of you who make cards should have a field day with this one.

Make an over-lapping design (makes beautiful paper piecing designs - ask Hope Ramsey - she's a genius with this idea).
Use the die to make a dimensional ornament (ala Cheryl Miller's Christmas ornaments).
Use the die to make gift tags or journaling clusters/tags/embellishments.
Use the negative piece as a stencil.

There are a million ideas out there but you have to USE them to appreciate those dies.

Great idea, Pam! My kit for February won't be killed but maybe I can incorporate this challenge into the rest of the kit.

Sounds like a great idea, but please feel free to post what you've done already for the February challenge.

Laurie, post a photo of the die you want to use. We'll give you suggestions.

Here's my entry.
I used the die to inset the butterflies into the background (overlapping them slightly).
I used the butterflies as a mask.
I used two of the "waste" butterflies layered to embellish a journaling cluster/embellishment.
I used two more of the "waste" butterflies to layer over a stamped image for dimension on a card.

Yes, I made cards.

What was I thinking? Here's that one card with another layer to complete it. Sheesh. Sometimes I get in a hurry to post things before they're done.

Great challenge, Pam, and FABULOUS examples. I will be out of my scrappy room until St. Paddy's day so I won't be able to play. But I'll have time to ruminate and come up with some excellent ideas. Road trip.

Love road trips - have fun Jen. Great challenge Pam; going to have to think on this, and hopefully find time to try it this month. I am beyond slammed at work and will be until mid-April, so the only challenge I'm carrying forward is to use my swap kit.

I chose the Tim Holtz rosette die. This was a real challenge. I had to wrack my brain to think of 4 different ways to use it!! I messed around with this most of the day and had a fun time just playing. It's so nice to be retired!! I am loving it.

These are embellishment clusters I made using this die:

A birthday card I made using the die:

An ornament I made using the die. I plan on scrapping Christmas photos next week and will incorporate this into a LO:

This was the hardest. I used the die to make the ruffles on the Christmas Tree. I plan on using this on a Christmas LO also:
