Boy, do I need a lot of practice with this technique . It sounded easy enough, but for someone who doesn't play around with paint or even inks that much, it was quite a challenge. I'm not very happy with the outcome, but I am pleased that I took on the challenge and learned something new.

I disagree. I agree it looks like a Christmas version of the Northern Lights.

Paint is an entirely different medium than ink, and there are just as many kinds of paints as inks, so don't frutrate yourself. Finding what works for you is the key.
