Donations for Ocracoke...

Post by nchoney »

So... I think I told you about Mattel stepping up and offering a lot of things for the kids on Ocracoke... they arrived this week... I'll be getting photos tomorrow. 100 Barbies, 100 Hot Wheels, 100 Uno games, 100 sets of Crayons, and 100 sets of Markers. So super excited!!!

And... folks are ordering things from the Amazon Wish List... and they're arriving... almost makes me wish I was teaching again... I love school stuff. LOL

I've also heard from a couple school supply companies who are going to send me some things like bulletin board displays, etc.

Then... Carson Dellosa, based in Greensboro, NC, emailed me yesterday... and... they have a HUGE warehouse sale coming up and then she's going to send me a batch of things that don't sell after that. So... more super excited!!

And THEN.... just got an email from Carolina Biological company... they sell Science supplies and equipment.. and are also based here in NC... and they're sending a gift certificate for $500!!!! I'm bouncing in my seat!!!

Ok... so... I've said it before and I'll say it again.... it NEVER hurts to ask.

Whoohhhoooo!!!! :happywave:

Debi! I'm so proud of what you're doing for your neighbors!

Just sent you a text - all the ocean overwash on your island - are you and Mike okay?

Yep... we're good... we're smart enough not to try driving through waves breaking on the highway. :-)

Good on you, Debi!

I've gotten into the habit of watching HGTV when I get back to the hotel from work and I'm just too tired to do anything productive. Last night I watched an episode of Beach Hunters where the couple were buying a property in Nags Head. I knew as soon as it started they were in the Outer Banks; it was fun to tour inside some of the other beach houses.

Scrapbook page!
How fun for the kids. I know cleaning supplies, school supplies, and food are more practical but what smiles these will bring!

Definitely scrapping!!

These toys are for right now. They're working on things like adopting a family for Christmas.

There's also also a school group handling a Giving Tree project. So if any of you have new or gently used Christmas ornaments or decorations you'd like to send, I can get them to that group. They did this after Irene. It was amazing!

I was just wondering what the year round population of Ocracoke is and I found this:

https://suburbanstats.org/population/no ... n-ocracoke

It really breaks it all down!

I wonder if many will leave permanently.

They will lose some families who moved there. Probably not families who are from long time family lines. But there was already at least one young family who moved inland. They were renting a house that was totalled and They also don't have an income right now. They needed to move to take care of their kids.

So there may be some more who leave but lots of folks are working hard to stay.

I hope that most are able to stay there but living by the beach or on an Island for sure has major challenges.
