Halloween is coming
Halloween is coming
First sign of it in our neighborhood. The skeleton it left behind is picked clean and still lying there (shudder!).

Re: Halloween is coming
That looks like a rather large carcass. Do you know what it was?

It looked like a squirrel or a rabbit. I didn’t want to get close enough. He kept walking around it while looking at me so I backed way off before taking the picture.pugmom wrote:That looks like a rather large carcass. Do you know what it was?

At least he wasn't trying to hatch your Easter eggs! (Bonnie's front yard. )
Re: Halloween is coming
Oh PamP I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at this.
PamC we have to thank the vultures for their clean ups.
So of course I had to look up your area and your vultures when I saw these photos being that they are not like “my” vultures. The Eastern vultures are Black Vultures. Here they are Turkey Vultures and look somewhat different. Different wing pattern and my vultures have red heads if they are adults. There is strangely a known Black Vulture on our north coast (took a wrong turn somewhere!) and we tried to find it a few weeks ago with no luck.
Two weeks ago during our raptor survey we had 176 Turkey Vultures on our route...it’s migration time for them. It was fascinating.
Thanks for this birding adventure.

Oh my goodness Pam! In July I saw a flock of vultures on a microwave tower near us. It’s impressive to see that many huge birds in one place.
Farley, I thought of you when I took the picture. I just knew you’d know more about this species!

Pam P,
I don't think I would want to look out my window
to see all those vultures on the front lawn. I'd spend the
day wondering who they were there for

Or plotting who to sacrifice, Elizabeth?
