Sometimes ...

Post by pbp908 »

... the stars align.

I don't say much about my vision problems anymore. However, it hasn't improved and has been deteriorating over the past few months. I literally can't see much of anything until I've been up for several hours. I finally "manned up" (womaned up??) and saw my eye surgeon. End result is that with meds the damage can be fixed. However, my insurance company had one of them on "prior approval." When we checked the prices on it George and I both almost had heart failure. Let the Dr. know and he contacted the insurance company. I don't know he told them but they're covering all but $20 of it! Yay!!!

I told George he probably told them either cover the meds or pay for a seeing eye dog. Can you imagine Apollo leading me around??? I'd end up following joggers, kids on bicycles and in the middle of the street 90% of the time.

And no, I don't remember the name of the condition. I was just glad it's fixable.

That’s wonderful news - the treatment part of it anyway!

Apollo’s gifts probably don’t include being a disciplined seeing-eye dog. Loads of other positive traits though.

I'm so sorry you're having vision problems, but it's wonderful that your doctor went to bat for you with the insurance company. I hope it doesn't take too long for the meds to start working.

I had to giggle at the visual of Apollo leading you around and taking you everywhere HE wants to go

Found it - Cogan's microcystic dystrophy. Unfortunately I have extremely dry eyes because my eyes don't produce tears very well, and then they're so think they're like glycerin. Which means several treatment options are out of the question. If the new meds help, and he said this is going to be long term, then I'll have better tears and the "road map" will smooth out. At this point he described my eyes as a topographic map instead of a smooth marble. I told him witches don't cry, so that's why I have lousy tears.
