Out of control shopping

Post by pamcook »

What is wrong with me? Within minutes of putting in writing “my 2019 crafting goal is to use more than I buy”, I placed an order from Altenew. Today, I made a “quick stop” at Tuesday Morning and bought Thickers. Thickers!!! I have enough Thickers for 3 people! When Joel came home, he asked if I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby. THERE’S A HOBBY LOBBY LESS THAN 10 MILES FROM US NOW! How did I not know this?? I had decided I don’t need to do JYC next year, so what did I buy? A 6x8 album and Christmas supplies for my 2019 JYC album.
No.more.shopping.

Other than buying inks from Catherine Pooler, I have been good. No on-line or in-store shopping. Of course, my daughters know how much I love to craft sooooo…………………. For Christmas I got a huge
bag of goodies from Hobby Lobby.

I got gemstones, Tim Holtz Ideology metals, a bunch of Jolee's stickers, an EK Success butterfly punch, a couple of Cricut glitter vinyl rolls and the cutting bars for my Fiskar's paper cutter.

I made two cards with the punch in answer to a challenge put forth, but can't find the thread right now. I'll put the picture here, and if and when I find that post, I'll put it there. The two Happy Birthday stamps are ones that I have never used before.

This is the first year I haven't received any gift cards for Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I've been very tempted by all of the online sales, though!

I haven’t seen enough on sale on some of the sites to justify the shipping costs. I wanted the labels on Elle’s Studio’s site but the shipping would have been more than my order. I need to find a digital source and print my own! Or maybe stamp some - what a concept! Use a tool I already own.

Well since it is confession time...I’ve joined 2 monthly kits! My christmas present to myself. First is the Catherine Pooler CANVO (bullet journal) Kit Club. I will be getting monthly stamps and stuff that relate to bullet journaling for the following month. February will be shipping soon. The other one is the Tonic Monthly Kit. I’ve been watching the videos for over a year by Tonic and also VickyP’s, liking the dies, papers and products that really interest me. I’ve already received the January set which was valentine related and love it...but haven’t had time to touch it.

Oh, and I’m in a coffee bean club too! Three 12 oz bags every two months. Wheeeeeeeee! Required in order for me to USE all the stuff that will be pouring in.

I just quit the monthly Simon Says Stamp card kit because I have an embarrassing amount of untouched kits sitting here.

If you want an interesting perspective watch Things That Irk Me About Cardmaking on YouTube. It is about buying stuff and not specific to card making.

That's the best video Lindsay has ever done. She seemed more down to earth and much less hyped up.

Here it is Nancie. The current kit is #17 but may be sold out for individual purchase. They have 3 plans as you will see.

I freely admit to the out of control shopping November and into December, but I'm going to try not buying anything for the next 4 months, along with a more ruthless purge of what I'm collecting not using, and see where I am after that. I use to fit all my stamping stuff in one plastic 7 drawer tower and a mini three drawer one that fit on my table, and I was much more creative with that limited amount of supplies than I am right now. Which means I need to get rid of 'stuff'. And stop collecting for the sake of 'oh cool I want that'. I need to get back to scrapbooking again, actually finish the three trips I'm partially through scrapping, but until I can see through the clutter and stuff it's just not going to happen.

haven't bought anything new except tapes for a very long time. Just placed a new order with Stampin' Up! that I really needed. (at least that is what I'm telling myself)

I actually did some more spending, too.... I got some more Distress Oxide inkpads when Blitsy had them on sale... heck.. I think that was an order right before Christmas... even though I knew I was getting crafting goodies for Christmas. LOL

Then I had to follow up on what Mike had ordered for me from Amazon - he said he had gone ahead and ordered everything that I had put in the cart as my wish list (I'm learning how to play this game, now.. LOL) but one of the items hadn't been under the tree for me... so I had to contact Amazon to get them to re-ship the Memento inks that were in the order.

I've also now ordered some things from ClubScrap.... holy smokes... they finally hooked me with the Mumbai kit that's been released this month. I've got lots of bright photos from the Lantern Asia exhibit that will look great with this paper... and I don't really have anything else like it. So... I've ordered it. I had also ordered some ink refills last month with my birthday discount (I'm still on the list, apparently) The Lantern Asia exhibit is amazing, if you ever have a chance to see it!! It's all lit up at night, but it's just as gorgeous to see during the daylight, too! Here are a couple photos that will be super with the Mumbai kit papers.
