Distress Markers

Post by pamcook »

Some of mine have dried out! :angry42:
All stored in the same place and horizontal. Any thoughts about how to rejuvenate them! I write to Ranger in hopes they’ll reply but hoping someone here might have an idea?

try the ink refresher. I want to say Tim or someone suggested pulling out the nib and using that, but don't quote me... look and see.

Add Distress Reinkers to the markers.

I've even put iit into non Distress markers that dried out.

I've put the Ink Refresher into markers as well as on inkpads, that stuff is great! It really extends the life of them. Actually, I'm surprised Ranger still sells it; otherwise, people would go buy new inkpads and markers.

I found it! I knew I had some and I found it. :cool5:

If only I could find my Ranger heat gun. I’ve searched for over a year and am close to giving up. Anyway - I’ve sprayed all of them and crossed my fingers.

ETA - well, this is interesting. Those that had dried out have changed colors. The spun sugar has a brown tint and the Tattered Rose is a muddy yellow. Going to add a few drops of trinket to see if I can get the color more like they should be. I feel like a mad scientist (emphasis on “mad” as in “not happy”). Should have used them when I first bought them!

Second update - all the others are like new again. Just the three pinks seem to have gone off. The Tattered Rose might be a loss. Not a bad outcome, really. Now I need to keep them on my work desk so I’ll use them. Even if I do nothing but practice lettering!

Thanks for those links! I have some pricey alcohol markers from Cara’s college days. Most are still like new but a few are dry. Worth a try.

There was an issue a few years ago with Distress Inks and markers changing colors. This might be some of the bad batch from that time.

I finally found my Ink Refresher last week after giving up on ever finding it.

I pulled out the brush nib from the Tattered Rose pen and reversed it, added some refill. Seemed to do the trick. The brush ends of my markers are now working well. The fine points - almost none of them. Even the Spun Sugar is looking more pink today.

I’m sure mine are from the dark days of manufacturing which is probably why I stopped buying them.
