Stampin’ Up Outside Inside Cards
Stampin’ Up Outside Inside Cards
I had so much fun in a SU class today along with 3 of my Wednesday craft buddies. Our SU demonstrator taught us some very cool and some very messy techniques. It was great. I’ll try to give brief explanations of the cards. Sorry for so many photos due to the inside being just as interesting as the outside. Each photo shows first the outside and then the inside.
This first card was the first time for me to use Brusho pigments though I have used the Color Burst pigments. We sprinkled directly onto an embossing folder, misted with water then after adding the card stock, ran it through a Big Shot. The results were really pretty. There was also a strip of card stock embossed for the inside of the card.

Card #2: The background was fun to make and right up our alley of previously talking about glossy card stock. The front panel and inside strip was directly swiped with 4 different ink pad colors. This wasn’t something new for me but it appears it has come back. I did this many years ago when I first began stamping. But the depth of color was gorgeous. Starting with a light blue-ish green and ending with a deep blue. The gold image is a bit complicated. It was merely a die cut done on a sheet with adhesive backing. It is applied to the background and then removed and heat embossed with gold powder. The inside gold image is the same cut from gold card stock.

Card #3: This card was the easiest but also very clever in how we colored the wine and grapes. Stencils were made of the “wine” as well as the grapes and leaves. We simply positioned the stencil over the wine glasses and applied ink with a tiny dauber. Piece O’ Cake!
I love the inside sentiment. I feel like it was made for me. LOL.

Card #4: Last card and really the most interesting technique. All you need is about 4’ of baker’s twine, reinkers and a phone directory book!
Take the middle length of 24 inches worth, dip that middle section in a pool of ink. Use gloves, very, very messy. Place cardstock on a page in the middle of a phone directory, lay a looping pattern of the inked string on the card stock, put another piece of cardstock on top with the remaining non-inked string ends hanging out of the book. Close book. With one hand pressing (not too hard) on top of book, pull the string completely out of the book. Open book and gently remove card stock and take the two pieces apart. You will be amazed at the results. I want to do this again and better. We thought the sample had been made with a stamp of a Lilly. Just gorgeous. The zigzag paper is metallic and very flashy.
This sounds crazy does’t it! If I do this again, I’ll make a step by step if I can’t find it online.

These are beautiful, Farley. I'm going to have to try that Brusho technique. And the last one with the string......love it!

Very nice, Farley! I used to love going to SU evenings and learning all the cool tricks. I think you're right about some of the old techniques coming back around.

Wow! I love these cards! Of course the ones with the wine sentiments are my favorites.

Super fun cards!! We never did anything this fun at any SU parties. Could be why that lady isn't a demonstrator anymore!!
This looks like you all had a great time... some new techniques and some twists on old ones!!

I did indeed have a very fun time. It was actually quite relaxing since there were only 6 of us and the demonstrator. I’m used to going to Julie Ebersole classes and it being wild and intense making 10 cards in roughly 2 hours. This was making 4 cards in 4 hours! Loved it and I hope to go to more of her classes through the year.
Here is a link to Lydia Fielding’s blog. Go to her “video” tab then scroll down to “string art”...it’s a long way down and you’ll get distracted by all the other videos on the way.

I just watched the string art video - very cool technique. I will be trying that as soon as I get a box of disposable gloves.

I want to do this again also but I need a phone directory. I always toss them into the recycle bin when they show up on my driveway. Not next time. Meanwhile maybe a thick magazine...I think I can swipe one of Bob’s woodworking mags, LOL.
