pens for art journaling?
Having a play today with inks and papers and whatnot in an art journal, a la Dina Wakley, as I found an abandoned class project that I've decided to finish up. I think I can credit her for being the first one years ago to encourage me to embrace my own handwriting on the journal page; I don't always love it but does make it authentically mine, together with using hand-cut stencils. I know that to achieve a more artistic looking result I can make my writing looser than I might normally. I've discovered that I'm happy with the things I write using a pencil on regular copy paper, but have yet to find a pen or marker of any type that gives me the same kind of flow I want on a journal page that's got gesso, paint, ink and/or who knows what already on it. I've tried - and probably own - most of the usual suspects: Sharpies, Microns, Pitt pens, etc. Do you have a favourite that makes your writing flow smoothly? Or should I embrace the pencil, maybe using something water-soluble like a Stabilo pencil? I'm not writing an epistle but just want to add a phrase or few words.

I like Pitt Pens and what was the brand I bought from Christy Tomlinson? Debbie B (if she’s not out playing in the sun) might be able to come up with that brand name.

I know at one point Christy was all about the Pilot PermaBall pen that she had made for Scarlet Lime, was that it? Can't get Scarlet Lime pens anymore, although Pilot does still make a PermaBall - but I don't know if it's the same. The tip looks way finer.pamcook wrote:I like Pitt Pens and what was the brand I bought from Christy Tomlinson? Re: pens for art journaling?
I would just be happy if someone could tell me how to get these dratted white pens to work. I've purchased every kind I've seen recommended and none of them work more that once.
Re: pens for art journaling?
I'll tell you what doesn't work on rough mixed media surfaces and that is a dip pen with a sharp point nib. Maybe I should try the round nib point, forget what it's called. I resorted to a fine tip Sharpie that worked just fine.
Re: pens for art journaling?
Stabilo pencils have been my favorite on the rare occasion that I do art journal pages. Haven't in a few years but that is what worked best for me. I loved how the white pencil would show up on just about anything.

I'm not familiar with the PaperMate Inkjoy, so thanks for mentioning that one.ChristyB wrote:I use:

Fude Ball 1.5, love, love them. Dina Wakley introduced them to me in one of her classes and I’ve never looked back, lol

Although I've read about these I've never tried one, guess I need to rectify that.Debbie J wrote:Fude Ball 1.5, love, love them. Dina Wakley introduced them to me in one of her classes and I’ve never looked back, lol
