Wonderful news, Debi. :cool5:

I was wondering why they couldn't just string a line along the side of the bridge but they didn't ask me! ;)

I agree.... we need a calm storm season.... lots of tourists to take care of the loss of income this week... no named storms... we've had our nasty karma for this year... I hope :-)

Marianne.... for the most part, it is strung under the edge of the bridge... it just went underground when it came off the bridge and went past that emergency ferry dock, I think... maybe not quite that far. But now it's back up in the air... this crew is cruising through this project... it's amazing to see the difference each day... whohhhoooo!!!

I'll bet they are motoring along. Hope it all goes smoothly and you are all back in business for next week's tourists.

This was this morning's update:

Thursday Morning Update:

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative and contract crews continue to construct a new overhead line to restore transmission power to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands as quickly and safely as possible.

Overhead Progress: Crews worked late into the night to connect the new overhead cables to the grid. That work is expected to be complete this morning and the cooperative will begin to energize the new line.

Next Steps: The new line will need to stay energize for several hours while the cooperative tests the cables. After testing, CHEC will begin to gradually introduce electrical load to the line. Residents on Hatteras Island in the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton will experience outages while the cooperative works to take these circuits off of generator power and energize them with the repaired transmission line. The cooperative will work to give these villages notice of impending outages.

Timeframe: The restoration timeframe from this point forward is 1-2 days. CHEC is working with Dare County officials to coordinate the safe return of visitors as soon as possible.

And this afternoon they'll be testing the new lines....

Between 2 and 4pm the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon & Buxton will experience brief outages while we work to test the new transmission line.

I think we'll see tourist traffic on Saturday!!

Whoohhoooo.... it was nice to have the A/C on again last night.... power is restored and tourists will be able to get back on the island at noon today ... that makes for a flurry of activity as all the rental company folks zip out to all the houses and turn the A/C back on.... but... it'll be good for everyone to have income again.... and... wow... amazingly we only lost power for one week. :-)

Woo hoo! Wendy's daughter and her aunt are headed to Salvo tomorrow. They had their RV and a camp reservation in reserve somewhere else but got the ok from the rental house yesterday.
Let's all hope the tourists are so grateful to be there that they spend big.
