So - I tried embossing on acetate and it worked fine! I have a box of heat resistant acetate purchased at Staples, I think it's for overhead projectors or something?
Anyway I was able to emboss this flower on the acetate using versamark ink and white EP. Just kept the heat tool moving while doing the heat embossing. I also used an anti-static pouch but it's near impossible to keep all the stray powder off!

This lesson is where the image is stamped and colored then the embossed acetate is placed over the top. The MISTI was a great help!
