My Cooper's hawk friend
My Cooper's hawk friend
We saw her again this morning. She flew along side our truck for about 100 feet. Couldn't get my camera open fast enough. She was carrying a snake (about 3 feet long). That would have made a page!

How cool Pam! I love it when I see a raptor carrying off a rodent or snake. Birds not so much but our critters all have a living to make. Hope it happens again and you can get a photo of her. They are nesting right now and have a huge job of feeding their chicks.

Wow, that must have been exciting, Pam. Any idea where the nest is?

I don't know where the nest is. I'll have to sit outside one day to see if I can tell. There are 100's of trees around us so she has lots of options.

Re: My Cooper hawk friend
My neighborhood Cooper's Hawk preys on my bird feeders occasionally. It's the birdie buffet. Their main diet is smaller birds. But they will eat just about anything. I'm all for them going after snakes. Politically incorrect I know.
Tomorrow is my bi-weekly raptor survey I do for Cosumnes River Preserve. My Route Team meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday to ID, count and record in detail all raptors within a specific territory. We love it when we see one carrying off a snake.
