Question for Moderator who maintains the forum

Post by Keitha »

Is it possible that when one clicks on a URL address that someone's shared in a message, that site can open up in a new browser window? I find that after I click through and read the article, sometimes even following links from there, I then close the window - only to find I've also closed PAO and have to open it up again, navigate to the forum again and back to the thread I was reading. Assuming I can remember where I was, LOL. Mostly I'm reading on my computer although I think it works the same way on my tablet. I've poked around in the User Control Panel and don't see that it's a preference I can set myself, so thought I'd ask.

I just right click on the URL and select open in new window.

Good point Debbie, although I'm not sure this old dog can learn a new trick!

Could also be a browser setting. When I'm not on my kindle del, I'll check, but I think there's a default setting for opening links in a new tab or a new window.

I just hit the "back" button to return to the forum.

Deb - This is the only site that this happens for me, so it's not a browser setting.

That being said, I use Marianne's method - back button works just fine. ;)

While I offered to assist Julie with the day-to-day maintenance of this forum.... I haven't been given any keys to the house just yet... so there's nothing I can look at in the site settings...

I know hitting the back button would work, if I think to do it. As this is the only site I need to think about that on, usually I've just closed the window before I realize I need to do things differently. I figured it was a forum setting, but maybe I can train myself to do the right-click, select new tab thing Debbie mentioned.

I looked around in the settings that we're able to change for our own preferences and I didn't see anything.... so it's possible there's some setting in the programming of this Bulletin Board software, but I'm not able to go digging in there yet.... no idea when that'll happen... I'm thinking Julie figured she didn't really need help working on this group :-(
