Deck of Art - 10 of Diamonds - Knit, Crochet, Emb...due 3/9
Deck of Art - 10 of Diamonds - Knit, Crochet, Emb...due 3/9
My theme is “Knit, crochet, embroider, lace, quilt, sew…”, using the 10 of Diamonds
Incorporate one or more of these fiber arts into your card. You can quilt with paper, stamp with lace stamps, glue on buttons or draw sewing stitches if you want to simulate fiber arts instead of doing the real thing on your card!
I picked the 10 of Diamonds because it is closest to a quilt pattern or lace...
And believe it or not, I already made my card!!! It's got crocheting, lace, and sewing on it.

This is beautiful, great job.
Re: Deck of Art - 10 of Diamonds - Knit, Crochet, Emb...due 3/9
This theme had had me stumped. I haven't sewn or embroidered anything in years and I don't crochet or knit.
So, I took a piece of metal mesh, mounted an embossed piece of metal in the center and "sewed" some fibers through the mesh.

Sue, your card *ROCKS*!!
Obviously, lots of people are having trouble with this one. I still think that "virtual" needlework would work beautifully, where you piece squares of paper together in a quilt-like fashion, and draw stitches along the edges, or use those stitching stamps to outline sections of the card. What about a "cross stitch sampler" concept, where letters are done with X'es with "Home Sweet Home" or something simple like that...Most of us have "stitched" books, too, so that's an option...

That's a lovely card, and a very innovative solution!

This was one of my favourite themes! It was harder to do than I thought, though, in terms of getting that crochet lace done without bending the card and having fingerprints all over...
Journal reads: "Both my mother and grandma were accomplished needlewomen and took care to teach me their favourite crafts at an early age: from Nan I learnt how to knit and embroider, from Mum how to do crochet and needlepoint, and later on cutwork and dressmaking. We did counted stitch samplers in school and when I found some giant cross stitch and hook-latch rug kits in a shop I took those up, too. But my favourite during most of my secondary school years was no doubt knitting – we were allowed to knit in class as long as we could give sensible answers when questioned, and I turned out endless sweaters and accessories during that time…

WOW! I love it! Nicely done Petra. Wish I had that knowledge. My mother could do wonderful hand work-- but never seemed to have the time to pass it on; of course, taking care of 8 children could have something to do with that!

8 children!!! How on earth did she manage to do any handiwork at all? Not surprised she had no time to pass it on - shame, though, for the knowledge lost...Holly wrote:WOW! I love it!
