Deck of Art: King of Hearts - Family - Due 19th August

Post by coolboxuk »

Sorry this is late but I had no idea that it was my turn. I thought we had to sign up for doing a topic, which I never did, so assumed I wouldn't get a turn until I did so...

Anyway, I haven't made my own card yet and at the moment I'm far too busy, but here is the theme: family. Simply because it is something I definitely want to talk about in my own Childhood Deck of Arts... I assume this is an easy topic - surely everybody will have something to say on the topic of family... Have fun!!!

This is my maternal grandmother's family. Taken about 1914. Large family and they are all deceased today.

Okay, I'm playing catch-up: here's my card for FAMILY.
The journal on the back reads: "I cannot think about my childhood without also thinking about how I missed having a “true family”. I was only 9 months old when my parents split up, and this photo is one of only a handful that show me together with Mum and Dad. After that, we lived with my Nan, and I had a cherished and well looked after childhood there – but I could never help feeling left out when it came to the “family things”…
Photo November 1965"
Materials used: Jolee's Boutique "50th Anniversary" hearts; scrap paper; Caroles Creations Adorn-Its (alphas)

It's nice that you do have a few 'family' photos, Petra.

I couldn't get too inspired for this one so I got out a photo I did several years ago in a digital imaging class and reduced it for the card. We took a picture of the house in London on one of our trips, it's where DH's Perry ancestors emigrated from to Australia. Then I put 5 generations of them in front of it in the class. I tried to use photos of the men around the same ages to compare their resemblance. I'd like to try doing it again and size them better.

Shame you didn't like the theme much, Marianne, although I love the outcome of it. It's great how you traced your ancestry when you were in London, finding the house and taking a photo. And I love that digital montage - would be interesting to see a bigger version of that picture - is there a good family resemblance in those men? Lovely take on the theme!

Thanks, ladies!
It wasn't that I disliked the theme, Petra, but once I decided on that photo, I couldn't think of anything artsy to do with it. The copy for the class was 8 x 10 so it was easier to see the men. Yes, there is a definite resemblance.

Debbie, Petra and Marianne I really think the way you all have completed this challenge is wonderful.... when ever I get around to trying to catch up I very well may CASE your idea Debbie! I have a photo of my maternal grandmothers family that was taken in the early 1900's and really do like it. Don't know if I can get it that small or not.

My take on family was spending time with my Grandparents in California. I loved to visit with them, but we lived in Illinois, so could only get out every two years. They were always great vacations.
