stamping into clay?

Post by Keitha »

Just watched the first lesson in Wilna Furstenberg's new class on Craftsy - it's Wilna at her artsy best! She stamped into air dry clay with rubber stamps; I want to try it with a clear polymer stamp, and I'm trying to remember what you use as a release agent so the stamp is less likely to stick in what you're stamping into. Does anyone remember?

Was it embossing ink? For some reason that comes to mind.

That's what came to my mind, too. Then I got thinking wouldn't that make it more sticky? LOL

I would think something like a powder. It's similar to when you use a cookie cutter, you dip it in flour.

That makes sense - perhaps I'll try my chalk bag.
Thanks.

I recall it being embossing ink, too.

I made my little clay frames this morning, and did swipe my chalk bag over my stamps before pressing them into the clay - although I don't think I needed to worry. Now the hardest part is waiting 24 hours for them to dry, before I can put them on a page.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I, too, still think embossing ink - but perhaps that was for making an impression into something else.

From what I'm reading online at a variety of sources... if it's air dry clay, you just roll it out flat and then stamp on it...

I used to use some polymer clay and stamp on that... and I might have used embossing ink...

I might try some air-dry clay for some embellishments or ornaments, though... sounds like a fun idea...

Don't know about clay, but I do know you use embossing ink when stamping into heated embossing powder.
