Favorite Stores and Designers

Post by LadyJaine »

This is a popular topic on a few other forums and it's a great way to discover designers that are new to you and stores that you might not otherwise visit.

At Scrapbook Graphics, I like Lori Davison and Flergs. Altered artists will probably love Tangie Baxter.

I like Hollie Haradon, of Holliewood Studios at Deviant Scrap.

Also at Deviant Scrap is Miss Behaving who has excellent tutorials. To find free tutorials from her, check out the forum at Scrapbook Graphics.

I like Miki Ferkul at Scrapbook Elements.

And I was lucky enough to catch a 'buy my store' sale from Monica of mgl scraps, who is now at Sunshine Studio Scraps.

Who and where are your faves?

I've looked at a lot of the designers you love Jean, and the funny thing is, most of them don't have styles I'd gravitate to. But that's what's awesome about having such a wide assortment of designers to choose from! Often while checking out recommended designers, I maybe haven't completely been in love with the designer who was recommended, but it led me to someone else who I really did like. So even though I've checked out most of these folks before, I'll probably go and look at them again. :-)

I'm going to cop out and not really name anyone, because I tend to start with what's available as freebies. And many of the designers at Stuff To Scrap http://stufftoscrap.com/ put out freebies on their personal blogs whenever they put a new kit in the store. If I really love the kit based on the freebie, then I buy it.

I tend not to gravitate to anything with elements that are too realistic, or too cartoon-y. Digital representations of traditional scrapbook supplies is what usually attracts me to a designer. And most of the Stuff to Scrap designers fall within that range. So I'm going to go with them as a group. :-) Total copout, I know. But I can't come up with an absolute set of favs.

About the only designer that I can say that I really like is Katie Pertiet, and I keep picking up enough of her freebies to keep me from buying a lot. There are a few others whose style I like, but I've got more digital goodies at this point than I'll ever use.

I shop frequently at www.houseof3.com - they have designs that I can use for all sorts of crafting. Heidi Swapp is a favorite and so is Ronna Farrar.

One of the things I've found is that the designers change their styles over time, too. Irene Alexeeva is one whose designs have changed a lot.

I tend to find kits more by accident. I've followed the big blog trains and find maybe half a dozen designers I like out of the 100. A few that come to mind are Red Ivy Design, Fa Maura and Eva Quevedo Ruiz (Aveziur).
